The first meeting of the 1st Bendigo Guides was held by Miss Merle Bush on the 22nd of August 1922 in the St Paul' School Room. Twelve girls were present. Miss Bush was given permission to open the Company by Miss R. The Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was registered in Bendigo on 18/06/1981.The decision to disband the Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was made at a General Meeting on 17/02/2016. The group agreed to continue as the Merle Bush Friendship Group. The Australian Trefoil Guilds connect women who are either actively involved in Girl Guiding or have a history with Girl Guiding. The purpose of a Trefoil Guild is to keep alive the spirit of the Promise and Law, carry this spirit into the community and to give support Guiding.Dark blue vinyl covered four ring binder containing a Friendship Book for the Merle Bush Trefoil Guild. The front cover has alight brown vinyl insert attached with purple stamped lettering - THE MERLE BUSH TREFOIL GUILD BENDIGO FRIENDSHIP BOOK and an image of the Trefoil Guild logo. It includes photographs, type written documents, booklets and photocopies. The items are mounted or glued on to buff coloured card from manilla folders cut in half. 22 pp. The first page has a title label - STATE PRIZE WINNER FRIENDSHIP BOOK 1986. The Trefoil Guild consists of former members of the Girl Guide Movement. It is a self governing and self financing guild that provides support to the Girl Guide movement. Originally formed as "Old Girl Guides" in 1936, it became the Trefoil Guild in 1944/45.Grreen cloth banner. The words Merle Bush Trefoil Guild at the top. Taking most of the centre a gold triangle, at top right a poppethead and top right a bottle of wine and grapes. At the centre of the triangle Bendigo flower emblem and at the bottom Suu Loong and the word Bendigo. At the back. Green for the local gum leaves and reefs of gold. Bendigo's position marked in the golden triangle by its floral emblem, the waxflower. Poppet head for Bendigo's wealthy foundations. Sun Loong for the heritage and many nationalities that contributed to Bendigo's character. Lettering the colour of our summer land and grass. Grapes for the vineyards and wines in the area.
