It was at the first international reunion of Vietnam Veterans held in Melbourne, in October 1988. It included a march down Swanston St to the Shrine. The 1988 parade of Vietnam Veterans in Melbourne was a significant event and Legacy provided rosemary sprigs for the event, a meal afterwards and Legatees attended. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. A black and white photograph of fortifications and a lookout post at the 'Horseshoe Feature' . The Diggers in the lower right-hand corner of the photograph are clearing an area between a large rock crevice to construct their fortified bunker. The 'Horseshoe Feature' was regularly mortared and rocketed by the NVA/VietCong. This is the eigth in a series beginning with Cat No 8255 showing the progress towards the Restoration of the Bendigo Cenotaph over the Bendigo Creek. The small inset photo is Max O'Halloran while delivery his address, the large photo shows the gathering under lights around the Cenotaph. The article is dated Friday 22nd of April 1988. There was a Cenotaph Guard from the local 15th Transport Sqd based at Mollison Street Bendigo. There was a gathering of some 100 people. The Mayor Cr Colin Nankervis welcomed former Mayor Alex Craig who was at the original Dedication on June 2nd 1957 with Sir George Lansell handing the Cenotaph to the City of Bendigo. Cr Nankervis praised the efforts of Bill Barton for his work in the Cenotaph Restoration. The proceedings were marred by two Veterans and a Women who yelled abuse during the Dedication, Max O'Halloran urged the crowd to ignore them with the gathering applauding and booing the 3 people.
