A prismatic compass is a common navigation and surveying instrument which was used extensively by the Forests Commission The compass most commonly used to run a traverse line. The compass calculates bearings of lines with respect to magnetic needle. A magnetic deviation correction was needed to convert the reading to a true bearing The compass could also determine angles between the traverse and waypoints (such as hilltop features). The Bendigo Easter Fair was established in 1871 to fundraise for the hospital and the Bendigo Benevolent Asylum. This dress and bag belonged to Mrs Edith "Dot" Paroissien (nee Jackson, born 1916), who lived in Brighton with her husband David William Paroissien. The dress was purchased from Croyde, a Melbourne designer who had a small boutique shop in Collins Street near the Block Arcade, and the bag was bought for her in London by David. Dot recalled wearing the dress in the 1950s, in particular to a ball at the Royal Exhibition Buildings for Wesley College. She wore it with suede shoes with a medium heel with straps across the instep and long white kid gloves, and accessorised with a baguette choker and drop earrings.Black silk satin sleeveless full-length evening dress. The attached bodice floats over the top of the under-dress. Asymmetrical opening on bodice which features five large flat self-covered buttons. Worn by Elizabeth Goodwin of Liverpool, England, who married Horace Book at St Andrew's Church, Brighton in 1921. The fabric was purchased by her father, a ship's captain, when he was in China. The bride had her dress made in Liverpool and made to a Butterick's pattern. Elizabeth was very active in public life and a well-known member of the Book family. Wedding dress made from cream silk purchased in China. The bodice is made of fine silk embroidered tulle with a vest of cream silk that floats over the top. The Procession of floats travelled from the Eltham Shopping Centre to Eltham Lower Park on Saturday 10th April as part of the Shire of Eltham centenary celebrations program. Participants in the parade included the Eltham Film Society, Scout group, Eltham volunteer fire brigade, riders on horses and horse and carts. A cowley roller from the Melbourne Steam traction engine club and a McDonald roller represented Eltham Shire Council in the 19th and 20th centuries. Another float includes a bark hut with trailer representing pioneers with a banner reading "The trues heroes our pioneers". Eltham Village is under construction by H.M. Keast & Sons, Master Builders.
