Cargo steamship (refrigerated) built by Hawthorn Leslie, Hebburn for Elderslie SS Company Ltd, Glasgow 1902. Twin screw, triple expansion engine making 13 knots, 1910 owned by the Scottish Shire Line Ltd, London and registered at Glasgow.Wooden framed sepia photograph of Servicemen aboard ship being farewelled by family and friends.The vessel pictured is the HMAT Ayrshire. She saw service during WW1 between1914 and 1918. Inscribed "Ayrshire" 3-7-16.

Small wooden framed copy of photograph under glass.Inscription below picture is as follows. " On 17 December 1915,a famous game of cricket was played at Shell Green,Anzac,as Turkish shells passed overhead. The batsman, Major George MacArthur Onslow, 7th Light Horse Regiment NSW,has just been caught out. The game was part of the various deceptions planned to deceive the Turks that all was normal at Anzac while the evacuation was being carried out". Shell Green was the only piece of flat ground for the game to be played on.

Cyril Leyshon White was an official war artist during the Gallipoli Campaign in WWI. He contributed a number of his sketches for “The ANZAC Book". After WWI he became a mentor to the young Sydney Nolan. Lt. White was a member of the 17th Garrison battalion attached to Tatura Camp 1. Landscape. A house with veranda and outbuildings surrounded by a wooden fence. Two bushy green trees partially hide the house with another blue-grey tree at right of picture. The buildings sit on a brown hill with blue-brown hills in the distance. The sky is blue with large s. Gold frame with beige matt behind glass.

The painting belonged to the Wied family who were in Camp 3 Tatura.
