Many Ithacan Greeks who migrated to Australia prior to World War 2 worked with family members or friends in food vending industries such as fish shops, fruit shops and cafes. Many of these businesses were located in the Melbourne CBD or in the surrounding inner suburbs. Shoppers would either carry their goods home in baskets, or have the merchant deliver them to people's homes, until 1852 when Francis Wolle, a schoolteacher in Pennsylvania, invented a machine to produce paper shopping bags. Soon after, owners of department stores and retailers began to realise that paper shopping bags could be used to help market their brands, and as such custom shopping bags with printed logos became common place. Elizabeth married William Daley. They obtained land on High Street Melton. Their house and bootmaker shop was situated on this block of land. They had two daughters Ann and Elizabeth. Pyott's Ltd., was an merchant and novelty shop in Vancouver, Canada during the early-20th century. An advertisement for the shop was published on February 9, 1922 in the Ubyssey News (issued Weekly by the Publications Board of the University of British Columbia. Farriers were an important element in maintaining the regiment's horses. The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. Upon its return in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion. It was disbanded following the end of the war. 20th Light Horse was the only light horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII. The three brick shops were part of the later commercial development which emerged along O'Shanassy Street. These shops were built on the northern side of Brook Street.
