Cream coloured background with pale blue flecks of colour, central motif of coat of arms - features two birds standing on grey platforms to either side of shield. Central to the shield is a masted sailing vessel sitting atop blue and white horizontal lines representing the ocean. Around the sails of the vessel are radiating yellow rays and a blue surrounds representing sunburst against blue sky. The top third of shield shows a pair of sheep heads against a red background. Above the shield is depicted a helmet, crowned with a whale. Commonwealth Bank stored objects in Melbourne (c.1991). Negotiations between Portland Historical Society and Commonwealth Bank of Australia led to gift of works to People of Portland. Stored at Council depot c.1998, retrieved for Maritime Discovery Centre display.Copper bas-relief. Depicting a man in raincoat and wide-brimmed rain hat at a ship's wheel. Behind him are flying birds and in front of him is the tail of a seal diving into waves on the left and the front of a seal on the right.

William Melrose volunteered as an oarsman in the Portland Lifeboat on the second and successfil attempt at rescue when he rowed manfully through the breakers. He was awarded a Silver Medal and [pound mark]12.10.0.Paper certificate mounted under glass and framed. Frame is carved wood, stained brown. Top corner is a carved scotch thistle, bottom corner has carved anchors. Centre of each side has a cavity for the medals. At the bottom centre is the Admella Relief and Reward Fund Draft certificate of reward to William Melrose Seaman 'Lady Bird' Melbourne Nov 12th 1859.
