A celebration of the Tawonga hall's 50th anniversary was held at the hall on 15th January 2011. This is a record of those who attended and a reprt from the newspaper of the up-coming event.The district of Tawonga consists mostly of farmers and their families who socialised at the local hall on many occasions. Commemorative medal made for the 1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Two portraits of Queen Victoria on the face, one as a young girl, the other an older, veiled woman. The medal originally had the words "Queen Victoria's 60th Year of Reign 1837 to 1897" around the perimeter of the face, however the medallion is so worn that the words are barely visible. The reverse has the Australian Coat of Arms, within a diamond shape. The words "Diamond Jubilee / Australia's Celebration" are around the perimeter (barely readable due to wear). A small crown is above the Coat of Arms and the date "1897" is below it, these are also barely visible due to wear. The medallion appears to have been of gilt plate, however only small areas of gilding are left on the reverse side. Orbost Lions Club was established in 1969. The first president was Don McKenzie. David Nixon was a director. In 1989 the president was Rom Konieczny. The club was formed to assist with local community fundraising for special causes. This program was produced to be used at the 20 Year Celebration held in 1989.The Lions Club of Orbost is a volunteer service club which contributes to the Orbost community. In 1952, the local Sunbury Progress Association sponsored the 'Back to Sunbury' celebrations which were held from 13th to 20th September 1952. The festivities celebrated 100 years of settlement (white) and provided a time for many long-time residents to get together. A.F.
