The assembly hall at the Mair Street property ...The fire screen was gifted to Mr J J Watson at his retirement in 1952. The assembly hall at the Mair Street property was named in his honour. Mr J J watson was a member of the school council from its inception in 1919 when he was elected as a representative of Scots' Church. He succeeded Rev J T Riddle as secretary to council in 1920. In 1954 the assembly hall at the Mair Street property was officially named Watson Hall in his honour. In 1957 the constitution of the Council was amended to enable Mr Watson to be elected its first life member. The fire screen was returned to the school by the family after his death. In a tribute in 1952 at the time of Mr watson's retirement from secretarial position on council, Principal Kerr said, 'Mr watson's family was friendly with the Kennedy(founder) family in Ireland, so that his interest in Clarendon was almost hereditary. His breadth of vision, generosity, devotion to the advancement of the school in every way, and meticulous care of the property and ikts interests, have given him a unique place in the hostory of the school. Wood fire screen with school crest at top of front. Carved details at top corners and base of front feature scottish thistle and leaves. Solid wood frame and stand; veneer insert. The Sandhurst Branch was started on August 26th, 1874. In July 1874, several gentlemen met together, and when a sufficient number had given in their names and sufficient promises of support had been received, the board of directors were approached with a view to forming a branch of the association in Bendigo. On August 26, 1874, the inception took place. The building was demolished in 1971. Photo collage of members of the Building Committee of the Sandhurst Branch of the Australian Natives' Association. ... .1: Specifications & plans for the kinder hall, Howard... for the kinder hall, Howard Street, Mont Albert for the Mont Albert ...These plans were associated with Mr Andrew Wood, a contract builder who worked in the 1920s and built many Californian bungalows in Surrey Hills and surrounding suburbs. Andrew Wood was born in Chiltern in 1861 to Andrew and Ellen Wood (MS: Green). His father had emigrated from Falkirk, Scotland. As a young man Andrew worked as a carpenter in the mines in South Africa (c 1899). He married Eleanor Agnes Stuchbery in Hamilton, Victoria in May 1901. They had 5 children - Doris (M Roberts), Robert Andrew, Donald Allen, Jean (M Cowan), and Gwenyth (M Bray). The first 2 children were born in Hawthorn; the other 3 in Surrey Hills. The family home at 286 Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills (on the corner of Middlesex Road) was built by Andrew. Andrew died in 1940; Eleanor died in 1977, aged 100 years. After Eleanor's death the house was sold and demolished. Surrey Lighting was established on the site. Gwenyth May Wood (3 May 1917, Surrey Hills - 5 Jan 2004) married Leslie David Charles Bray (1921-1983). Gwenyth was the donor's mother. One ...This shield was a trophy awarded to the lodges of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in the 1960s. The first Warrnambool Lodge of the I.O.O.F. was established in 1860 (Loyal Victorian Lodge) and the Oddfellows Hall in Koroit Street Warrnambool was opened in 1869. One winner of the shield, apart from the Loyal Warrnambool Lodge, was the Loyal Aurora Lodge and the only reference found to a lodge of this name was based in North Melbourne. No information has been found on Frank D. Grayham. This shield is of interest as a trophy given by the Independent Order of Oddfellows in the 1960s. The I.O.O.F. in Warrnambool has been of historical importance in the social and business spheres in the city. This is a wooden shield with a central metal plaque attached and six other smaller metal plaques. The central plaque has an ornamental edging and the plaques are attached with metal pins. Four of the plaques have inscriptions. Both the wooden section and the plaques are much worn and scratched. Central Plaque: ‘W.D.C (or G) I.O.O.F. Lodges Installation of Officers Competition Frank D.
