There is no information with this item. "The Pyramids", was named due to huge rocks that jut out from the hill, being shaped similarly to the Egyptian Pyramids. " Where the Murrindal River winds between high limestone bluffs before disappearing into a mountainside and becoming an underground river, four miles north-east of Buchan, is the region known as The Pyramids. It is an area of limestone caverns and sink holes overshadowed by three rock stacks. Some of the caves are the last resting places of long dead Murrindal animals." branding iron, Late 19th -mid 20th century
Branding irons are used to print a burn an identifying marker on the hide of horses or cattle so that they may be later identified if they become lost or escape from their pasture. The irons were typically forged by blacksmiths using a toolset that included hammers, anvils and chisels. The branding irons were used by heating the end bearing the owner’s initials to a very high temperature in a furnace, and then burnishing it against the skin of the cow. Brands were registered with state governments as unique marks. This allowed for a state registry to be maintained. Photograph, 1944
Taken in 1944, the photograph depicts the surrounding farmland from Mt. Stanley in Victoria. A secret experimental micro-wave radio station was established and tested at this site by the Army Signal Detachment Unit during World War II. It was part of an experimental Ultra High Frequency (UHF) link between Melbourne and Sydney. At the time, it was highly classified. It intended to enquire into the hitherto unexplored transmission of micro-waves; that is, a radio signal which could only be transmitted by line of sight, and thus required hill-top to hill-top location. The photograph is historically significant as it pertains to World War II; the largest global conflict in history. This significance is enhanced by Australia's prominent involvement in campaigns across the Pacific, particularly on land in New Guinea and across the Huon Peninsula. It was also the first time that the Australian mainland came under direct attack by the Axis, with Japanese forces targeting north-west Australia and Sydney Harbour. These battles became Australia's largest and most complex offensives during the war. The record is also historically significant as it relates to the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, or "RA Sigs". This significance is strengthened by Australia's unique distinction of having the first established signal unit under the British Empire. This unit provides electronic warfare. They enable commanders to implement highly dynamic battle control against opposing forces by using a number of methods including radio, fibre optic, micro-wave, information systems and satellite links. The record has strong research potential. This is due to the ongoing scholarly and public interest in war, military history, the ANZAC legend, and the ongoing existence of the RA Sigs. The historic context of this record can provide insight into Australia's history, military, technological innovation and advancements, as well as national economic, defence and foreign policies after 1945. First Aid Kit, 1984
The State Electricity Commission of Victoria supplied First Aid Kits to its employees and 'ran' an ambulance during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme (KHES). The KHES was constructed at the upper end of the Kiewa Valley in the Victorian mountains on the Bogong High Plains. This area is remote with difficult terrain requiring people working and enjoying recreational activities to carry a first aid kit in case of emergency. This First Aid kit is light and portable enabling the user to 'fix' minor injuries and wait for access to medical assistance. This portable first aid kit was owned by a local Mt Beauty resident, Allan S. Photograph - Framed Photograph of Lee/O'Keefe Wedding, Lee/O'Keefe, 1910
This is a framed photograph of a large group of people at a wedding reception in April 1910. The occasion was the marriage of Mary Lee of Wangoom and Patrick O'Keefe, also of Wangoom. The wedding took place at St. Joseph's Church, Warrnambool and the reception was held at the property of St. Mary's at Wangoom which had been held by the Lee family since the late 1850s.Two marquees were erected to cater for over 400 guests and the hospitality included midday dinner, afternoon tea, high tea and supper. The Temperance Band provided the afternoon music. This photograph is of considerable interest, firstly because it depicts a Warrnambool/Wangoom 1910 wedding and secondly because it is an unusual photograph for the time, showing a very large group (perhaps over 400).This is a black and white photograph in a brown wooden patterned frame. The photograph is set within a gilt metal edging and has a glass covering The back has a label and a screw but no hanging wire. Medal, c1887
Arthur Ernest Albert Dawson entered Ballarat College 4 August 1886. The 1887 Ballarat College Sports program lists Arthur's name against Hurdles, Flat Race, and High Jump. Unfortunately the medal is undated. The intriguing inscription 'Twice Second' may refer to Arthur's competition for the College Cup, a highly valued Athletics Prize. The school does not hold sufficient records from this era to confirm any further details. The medal was donated to the school by Arthur's great-nephew, Ken Dawson, in 2019. The medal has social significance. It reveals the very high value placed on sports involvement at the school from its earliest beginnings. Case for G.P. Multimeter, Circa 1950
This leather case holder for a general purpose Multi-meter( KVHS 0307 (A)) was manufactured after 1950 and used by the SEC Vic (Kiewa Hydro Electricity Scheme) from that date until late 1900's. It was used to measure very small voltages associated with the operation of the various Hydro Generators. The readings were able to be shown by the resistor in use in the current circuit. During this time period, high quality testing instruments were either sourced from Europe or England. This particular carry case was manufactured in the Netherlands. This carry case for an analog General Purpose multi-meter which is quite a large (for a handheld mobile) apparatus. The bag however permits the easy monitoring of electrical variations within the large SEC Victoria Hydro Scheme's electrical generators. These generators are powered by the hydro force of "stored" water at a higher altitude. The establishment of both the NSW and Victorian Hydro schemes was achieved from the mid 1900's to the 1960's. At this point in time the need for additional power sources to quench both an industrial and domestic demand for electricity was purely an economic and not and environmental (carbon reduction) factor. This hydro scheme was instigated by "the Government of the day" as a bold move and was the major force of the World War II refugee and "technical" workforce inclusion of skilled and unskilled migration into the Australian environment. Although this mass "invasion" of workers with families was thought of in some circles as intrusive, the expansion of population post war years and its integration into the Australian rural sector, produced the multi- lingual multi-cultural diversity of later years. This leather case is to provide protection for this mobile G.P. Multimeter, therefore it is made from thick leather. It has a carrying strap from a thick "D" chromed link. This link is fastened to the main cover by a looped leather strip with a black coloured rivet. All the fasteners are either chrome or black coloured rivets. The front, which when opened back exposes fully the inside of the case. It is clip fastened to the lower section of the front piece which also can be pushed back allowing the meter to be removed from the frontal position. There is a strip retaining strap slightly higher from the mid point. This is fasted by a black press stud. There are two "L" shaped tin protrusions allowing the meter to slide only down the case until it rests on these shelves. This provides for an empty space for minimal storage,.On the front bottom and below the clasp is a tag "STATE ELECTRICITY COMMISSION OF VICTORIA TRANSMISSION DEPT."sec vic kiewa hydro scheme, alternate energy supplies, alpine population growth -

Black and white photograph of Surveyor's Camp, 1938, Kiewa River and surveyor's Camp 25/8/38, 25/08/1938
Surveying under the prevailing conditions at this time was an arduous and demanding task. There were no roads beyond Tawonga and access was by bridle tracks, on foot or horseback. This camp was to provide accommodation to those men who were surveying the road from South Tawonga to the Bogong High Plains which was commenced in April, 1938. The actual work was undertaken by the Country Roads Board, on behalf of the State Electricity Commission, using three Caterpillar diesel crawler tractors equipped with Kay Bruneriei (Brunner) lhydraulically operated trailbuilders (angle dozers)This photograph shows the primitive living conditions that were endured by those carrying out the initial field investigations and surveys for the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. It is possibly one of the few photographs in existence of this camp and of the very rustic timber foot bridge across the West Kiewa river. It has been taken from approx. 100m up Simmonds Creek Road. A black and white photograph showing a small, timber foot bridge across the West Kiewa River. There is a man standing on the bridge and two small huts on the far side of the river, against a backdrop of Mt. Beauty and Mt. Bogong. At the top of the photograph, handwritten in black ink is the inscription "Kiewa River and Surveyor's Camp 25/8/38". The number 4 is stamped towards the right upper corner. On the back, in a circle, about 1.3cm in diameter, are the words "Kodak Print". The word "Velox" is faintly discernible on the back as well.surveyor, tawonga, west kiewa river, bridge, camp, secv -

Thomas retroflexion pessaries associated with Dr Frank Forster
Thomas’ Retroflexion Pessary is narrower in proportion to its length, while the greater bow is enlarged to a bulb-like form. It enjoyed great popularity and as such was manufactured in a great variety of sizes. Comprised of hard rubber because of its lightness and the high polish that may be given it. The shape can be adjusted by covering the device in petrolatum and heating it with a spirit lamp or immersing it in boiling water. Manufactured in three sizes, and could be combined with a cup and stem external support. See Allen & Hanburys Gynaecological instruments catalogue, page 707.Two moulded black pessaries, Thomas retroflexion type. Made of black vulcanite. Narrower at one end.pessary, intrauterine device -
Yarra City Council
Artwork, other - Installation/Sculpture, William Eicholtz, Close Knit, 2023
'Close Knit' was conceived based around providing the high density accommodation of the area with what many residents will never experience; the iconic ‘Aussie’ backyard, symbolised by washing on a Hills Hoist. This concept was transposed into several elements, including two large flying jumper sculptures. These stainless steel and fibreglass structures are supported on slanted poles, reminiscent of Hills Hoist arms. The jumpers appear to catch the breeze, and billow up, like washing on the clothesline on a sunny day, and cast lovely shadows across the paths and gardens. They are bright and joyful reminders of simple homespun joys. The handcraft theme is also featured in knitted concrete garden walls throughout the gardens. As if the wind is captured in the movement of the Hellenistic drapery, these panels echo the Lady of Justice, an earlier work of mine on the Victorian County Court. These feature walls bring a softness to the park and hark back to classic European garden design. There are 6 finial/balls of wool marking gateways and entrances to the park, as well as a couple randomly scattered throughout to be discovered. There is also a draped plinth at the Peel street entrance which has my signature. Again these elements echo traditional garden design and are a tactile and recognizable link to the hand knit themes of the park. Given the strong themes of domesticity and handcrafts, I have titled my work ‘Close Knit’, as it applies to the purpose of this public space as well as the works scattered throughout. Yarra City Council delivered Cambridge Street Reserve in partnership with the Victorian Government, who have supported the project with $1.3m funding. Yarra City Council has invested a further $731,130 towards the project. Urban Imitative Landscape Design worked with artist William Eicholtz at the beginning of the design process to consider the needs of a growing high-density population of the area. At double the size, with extensive park seating and a large lawn space which is shaded by native trees, Cambridge Street Reserve is now the largest park in Collingwood. 'Close Knit' by William EicholtzTwo knitted fibreglass 'jumpers' over stainless steel framework; six concrete balls of wool throughout the park; 25 metres of cast (drapery) concrete walls; concrete plinth at Peel street entry which is draped with a concrete knit and a ball of wool on top as finial; reverse rope reliefs on the front façade of eastern stairs. Artist name and date 'William Eicholtz 2023' inscribed on plinth with ball of wool on top as finial. handcrafts, domesticity, aussie icons, european garden design, public space, high density accomodation
