Functional Object - Brass Plate/s, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1931
Set of two brass manufacturing / data plates from the BTM Isolating transformer that failed Oct. 2004 and sent to ABB's Yarraville Workshop for assessment. Recovered from the transformer by ABB staff following inspection. Plates detail Manufacturer (State Electricity Commission of Victoria), ratings, connection diagrams, windings and date of manufacture (1931). These plates did not reflect the re-winding characteristics, but its original manufacturer. Transformer No. 1267. Each plate has four corner holes. Transformer acquired by the BTPS 1973 for re-winding from the SEC. See Reg. Gives details of 38 tables or runs, numbered from 1 Run to 38 Run. Each sheet headed "Weekday", three runs per sheet. Saturdays - 1 to 34, Sunday - 1 to 10. Each sheet has in the top right hand corner LJD/3/70. Time table operated until the commencement of closure of the system. Demonstrates timetable making.Twenty Eight page, white paper, saddle stapled booklet, titled "Electricity Supply Department - Ballarat Tramways - Official Time Table January 1939", numbered TYE 1-48-5918. Gives notes on the through routing of the tram service, how the clock style format works and that it operates from the Tramway Centre. Also details when extra services are run and times as specific points along the route. Pages 24 and 25 detail the fares and charges, page 26 - luggage, page 27 - section destinations for the various routes and page 28, notes recent reductions in electricity charges. Two copies held. In the worksheet file is the basis of an article that appeared in Feb. 2006 Fares Please! SECV - 1/6d Weekly Ticket - white card, with black and red printing. Headed with SEC details, punch marks for day of week on the sides, in and out directions and in the centre area of the ticket, overprinted in red, numbers 1 to 8. On rear has availability details, where it can be used, not available on Sunday and ticket number "EA341101" printed on the ticket in black ink. Has been used and possibly ex a tramcar given the condition. Note different style to that held to date (5/2005) for use in Ballarat and Bendigo. Yields information about the last day of the Ballarat Tram Depot operations with the payout and the closure of the gate.Newspaper Clipping from the Courier, Saturday 9 Oct 1971 - titled "End of an Era", of the last day of the tramway depot in Wendouree Parade. Photo features Stan Lakey, foreman at the tramways depot for 23 years, closing the gate at the tramway depot. The men (workers) had been paid off the previous day by Mr. W. Trusler, supervisor. Has 8 other workers in the photo. Appears that the men are holding their payslips or other documents. Date of item can be determined from notice of electricity interruption, on rear of item for Sunday 10/10/1971. Details some of the work undertaken in both Ballarat and Bendigo, including the widening of double track in McCrae St to 10' to allow ex MMTB trams to run. Includes replacement of trolley wire. Features photos of reconditioned track on the Eaglehawk Route and a caterpillar tractor.
