One of a collection of 6 photographs donated by Anne Grayden. The Speke was the third largest 3 masted ships built in 1891. It was wrecked in 1906 near Kitty Miller Bay due to a navigational error. One man drowned but the rest of the crew reached safety. Remains of the hull are a tourist attraction now over 100 years later.Black & White photograph of the wreck of the Speke. All participants attended BTC (Ballarat Teacher's College) in 1947.Much of this document is handwritten so is significant as an example of teacher's handwritten letters.Two Ballarat Courier newspapers dated 5 June 1991 and 1 June 1991 bound at side with white contact adhesive. The newspapers are used as an alphabetical filing system for correspondence relating to reunions. W & J Knox Ltd were cotton millers in Kilbernie, Scotland during the time after the Industrial Revolution when Great Brittain exported manufactured cotton products globally. The early settlers in Moorabbin Shire had to be self reliant and made their own clothing, napery, tools and household goods. This is a photograph of the site and the remains of the Lochton flour mill which was situated on a horse shoe bend along Deep Creek at Bulla. Captain William Morrison Hunter took up land along Deep Creek and built his home in 1850.He opened the flour mill in 1856, which was worked by a number of millers until it ceased operations in 1961.Flour milling was one of the early industries carried out in the Sunbury and Bulla district.
