(8)The 2/24th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army, which served during World War II .A unit of all-volunteers, it was formed in July 1940 from primarily Victorian volunteers and was known as "Wangaratta's Own" because of the time the battalion spent in the town during its formative period prior to deployment overseas. It served in North Africa in 1941–1942 as part of the 26th Brigade, which was assigned to the 7th Division, before being reassigned to the 9th Division. In early 1943, the battalion returned to Australia and later took part in campaigns against the Japanese in New Guinea in 1943–1944 and Borneo in 1945, before being disbanded in 1946. The 2/24th suffered the highest number of casualties of any 2nd AIF infantry battalion. The work was commissioned by the Friends of the Library, Daylesford and funded by Arts Victoria and the Australia Council. Poemscape: a physical anthology is a much loved site specific installation work commissioned by the Friends of the Library, funded by Arts Victoria and the Australia Council, made by Daylesford resident Patrick Jones in response to his interests in the provision of public food, the development of locavore sensibilities and the rethinking of economies of material accountability and regard. Patrick Jones is a poet and non-fiction writer, a visual artist and ecological thinker. David Macknight Jones was born on 31 January 1910, the son of the Rev. David Samuel Jones. He attended University High School, then Ormond college, where, after graduating in Arts, he studied Theology. He obtained his Bachelor of Divinity in 1936, and was ordained in St. Stephen's Church Toowoomba, where his father was the minister. He married Elizabeth Ann McLellan in 1938, and in the same year was inducted as the first Minister in the Western patrol (Timboon), Presbytery of Mortlake, Victoria. He was called to Scots Church Shepparton in 1941, to St. Andrew's Launceston in 1947, to Kew Presbyterian Church in 1950 and to Pascoe Vale in 1965.
