Report - 20 pages + 5 Maps stapled and then glued bound within a light green grey light card folder titled "Metropolitan Town Planning Commission - Special Report on the Development of the area serviced by the Darling to Glen Waverley Railway - 1927". Report looks the development that could be undertaken along the proposed Glen Waverley rail line, its town planning, Garden City type layouts, rail level crossings, new arterial roads, open spaces, financial arrangements, sewerage and water supply, zoning, legislation and conclusion. Dated 6/5/1927. Plans show possible garden city type layouts, arterial roads, possibilities within existing sub-divisions. Image shows a newspaper photo of the MMTB U Class Tram 203 on temporary track at east side of excavation for underpass in Epson Road Flemington with Racecourse railway line to eliminate level crossing. The road was often closed to all traffic, including trams on race days by the railways. Shows Glenferrie Road, near Linda St looking south, c1915 prior to the construction of the Railway overpass at Glenferrie Railway Station with H class tram 58 in the view. The tram line was constructed in 1913. It would appear that the level crossing gates are closed in the photograph. The building on the right-hand side by the horse-drawn cart was an ANZ bank until 2021. The closer building, a theatre (The Palace) has since been demolished and is now a Coles Supermarket. The level crossing was replaced with an overbridge in April 1916. The church in the background is the Immaculate Conception Church, without the spires - built after WW1. Provides the Rules and Regulations for the St Kilda - Brighton Electric Street Railway, dated June 1907. The railway opened on 5/5/1906 and to Brighton on 22/12/1906. the latter largely as a single track. Has the name F E Bradford on the front cover. Gives rules for crossing cable tram lines, those for drivers, speeds, conductors, accidents, bell signals, signals on overhead line, regulations for working by staff and ticket, pilot working, rules for workers on the permanent way, and additional rules such as collecting money from passengers for breaking windows.
