Peacock Hall was opened by Premier Alexander Peacock. Stained glass windows by Amalie Feild (later Colquhoun).are located across both ends of the hall, as well as Honour boards listing students' war service in both World Wars. Boards along the side walls also list School Captains, Council Members, the Dux of the School as well as University graduates. The memorial mural tablet for the hall was designed by George Dancey. Raoul Couture was a high-end fashion house based in Flinders Lane from around 1955 until 1964. Established by designer Ralph Samuel, who also owned Hartnell of Melbourne (circa late 1940s-1971), Raoul was the business's premium label. The head designer was Leonard Legge, who later worked for Prue Acton. Brighton Historical Society holds a small collection of Hartnell and Raoul Couture garments, including a Gown of the Year Award-winning dress donated by Ralph Samuel.Red felted wool coat with red silk lining, fastening centre front with four large square-shaped buttons. Date of the photograph is not known. Criterion House was built by Samuel Steele in 1862/1863. Samuel Steele left Linton in the late 1860s, but it is not known if B. N. Dodd was the next owner of the building. B. N. Dodd was mentioned in advertising as a Linton draper in 1878. He sold the shop and moved to Ballarat in 1887. The upper floor of the building was used as a hospital from around the end of WWI to the early 1920s. The building was demolished around 1938/39, in connection with the rebuilding of new offices for the Shire of Grenville.Digital copy of original photograph, which shows a two-storey brick building with a verandah. Library Committee minutes from 1920 discuss the placing of an Honour Board in the Library, there was obviously some discussion from the Ballarat and Bendigo Law Associations about whom should be placed on the board and whether it was appropriate that it be located in the library. The board was donated by the Committee of Counsel, from the Bar and so only commemorates barristers. It is curious that this was not placed in Selborne Chambers where many barristers had rooms including one of the men on the Board (Higgins). This board joined the much bigger LIV memorial board that celebrates all Victorian lawyers who served during WWI.While memorial boards are a common addition to many public and civic building after World War One. This memorial board is the only one that commemorates members of the Bar, in that sense it is of great significance to the legal community. Two of the men commemorated on the board were sons of judges (Higgins, son of the Justice Henry Bourne Higgins of the High Court and Hodges, son of Justice Henry Hodges of the Supreme Court). Franc Carse was related by marriage to the a’Beckett family (also judges of the Court) and his father in law was on the Supreme Court Library committee in 1914. Eric Connelly and Murdoch Mackay shared rooms in Selborne Chambers. Connelly died in late 1918 in France, a member of General Pompey Elliott’s staff. Connelly had previously taken part in the Gallipoli landings in April 1915. The Boer War took place from 11 October 1899 – 31 May 1902. Also known as the Anglo–Boer War, or the South African War, the conflict was fought between the British Empire and the two Boer Republics (the South African Republic and the Orange Free State) over the Empire's influence in Southern Africa. As part of the British Empire, the Australian colonies offered troops for the war. Samuel McGowan was born in North Ireland in 1845, immigrating to Australia in 1870. He arrived in Bendigo 1871 and having worked in a large engineering works at home was quickly able to find management work in foundries, later opening a legal manager's office growing this into one of the largest of its type in Bendigo. Samuel McGowan was elected a member of the City Council in 1883 and was elected Mayor in 1885 and again in 1899, resigning as a councillor in 1901. He was the treasurer of the Bendigo Hospital, a senior member of the Zenith Lodge and president of the Bendigo Agricultural and Horticultural Society. Samuel McGowan and Kate Goyne from Epsom married on 29th August 1874. Samuel died in 1921 aged 76 and Kate in 1930 aged 78. This plaque was probably attached to a commemorative board such as an honour board, however its whereabout are unknown. Engraved plaque in the shape of a flag and flag pole. Photocopy of Luther College Year 10 history project describing several war memorials and researching the story of Sergeant Charles Samuel Hall whose name appears on the Mitcham War Memorial. He served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front but contracted tuberculosis and died at the Australian Military Hospital, Harefield Park in Middlesex. Roy Staughton was a member of the Staughton family who were among the early and prominent pastoralists in the Bacchus Marsh and Melton area. His Father was Samuel Thomas Staughton Snr a member of the Parliament of Victoria for over 20 years and whose properties included Eynesbury near Melton. Samuel Staughton died in 1901. In 1910 while working in New South Wales Roy Staughton contracted Typhoid and died aged only 22. This portrait was first presented to the Bacchus Marsh Branch of the Australian Natives Association a few months after his death by his Mother Mrs. Eliza.
