Their six-year marriage was never consummated and for Effie, Venice provided an opportunity to socialise, while for Ruskin it was a venue to engage in more solitary studies. In particular, he made a point of drawing the Ca' d'Oro and the Doge's Palace, or Palazzo Ducale, fearing they would be destroyed by the occupying Austrian troops. Ruskin made extensive sketches and notes for the three-volume work, which soon developed from a technical history of Venetian architecture, from the Romanesque to the Renaissance, into a broad cultural history. Cleverly Ruskin managed to reflect his own view of contemporary England and to weave in a warning about the moral and spiritual health of society. Ruskin argued that Venice had slowly deteriorated. Its cultural achievements had been compromised, and its society corrupted, by the decline of true Christian faith. Instead of revering the divine, Renaissance artists honoured themselves, arrogantly celebrating human sensuousness. 1972 VFL Grand FinalThe 1972 Football Record represents an epic match between two of the fiercest rivals of the 1970s, Carlton & Richmond. In 1969 Richmond had defeated Carlton in the Grand Final but Carlton were able to turn the tables in 1972, Carlton recorded the highest GF score of 28.9.177 of all time to date and Richmond's losing score of 22.18.150 surpassed the previous highest score in a GF. Carlton scored 18 goals to half time. Carlton superstars Jesaulenko, Nicholls & Walls dominated Richmond kicking nearly twenty goals between them. A copy of a 1879 Inglewood Advertiser Article 26/5/1879 Newspaper Article presented to Carlton Football Club 2nd March 2016 describing a game in 1879 between Carlton FC and Inglewood & District. The game was pre VFL. The Article nominates the Carlton Players for the game. Carlton Captain was Gardiner, surname only. The conditions were terrible spoiled by constant rain. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007.
