They were found stored inside a leather valise with other "horse" items which are also believed to have been owned by the jockey. These badges are unused and were possibly available for those guides who took part in the various camps or became new members. they were designed to sew on to the guide uniforms or blankets. Nancye Wallace (nee Warren) was a Guide leader.Established in 1910, Girl Guiding is now one of the largest all female organisations in the world. It is designed for girls, young and not-so-young women to join and enjoy a program of informal learning, opportunities, fun, personal development and friendship. (ref. Girl Guides Victoria). These badges used by an Orbost local reflects the history of that organisation in Orbost.Twelve cloth badges. They are unused Girl Guide badges. two are round with a black background and inside a red circle is a wattle tree. One is round with a variegated fairy wren inside a red circle. One is rectangular with an eastern rosella inside a red circle. There are four smaller square shaped badges (cut from a strip) with gold, and red print on a blue background - " 1910 Girl Guides Jubilee 1960". This ledger was used by the Shire of Orbost in 1959. The item was donated to Orbost & District Historical society from P.R.O.V. as a Place of Deposit (POD) item for safe keeping by a local history group or museum. The shire covered an area of 9,347 square kilometres and existed from 1892 until 1994 when it became part of the East Gippsland Shire Council. Orbost was at first included in the Bairnsdale Shire from 1882 and was later part of the Tambo Shire. Because of travelling distances the Croajingalong Shire was created in 1892 (name changed to Orbost Shire 17.2.1893 with James Cameron as the first Shire President. In 1994 it amalgamated to become part of East Gippsland Shire Council. This is a handwritten record of revenue accounts from local government. The Shire of Orbost as a local government no longer exists havinb absobed into the East Gippsland Shire Council.A heavy ledger with a brown cover and steel bindings. The covers are probably wooden. It is alphabetically indexed and the ledger is lockable. it contains revenue accounts for 1959. On the front cover is "LEDGER (underlined) SHIRE OF ORBOST" in gold print. This is a ball ticket purchased by Marilyn Morgan C1950's.Community events such as balls were an important feature of the mid 20th century. This book is a bank account book issued by The State Savings Bank of Victoria, guaranteed by the Government of Victoria for The School Bank Department. it belonged to Marilyn Morgan who attended State School No. 2744 at Orbost from 1956 -1958.The State Bank of Victoria was a bank that existed from 1842 until 1990 when it was taken over by the Commonwealth Bank. It was owned by the State of Victoria. the bank operated school savings accounts from 1912.A book with a blue cardboard cover and green/blue cloth binding. Print is black. It has si leaves inside. This knife was found in a drawer from the estate of Judy Walcott who died in 2016 in Orbost. The Dicken Bros, shop is in the main street of Orbost . Frank B. Dicken and his son, Selwyn, were General Merchants. Frank and May Dicken moved to Orbost in 1936 where Frank became manager of Pardew Brothers store in Nicholson Street. In 1945, Frank purchased the business and in 1947, formed a partnership with his son, Selwyn. The store was then called F.B. Dicken and Son. The premise are still retained by the Dicken family although the shop business was sold in 1981. (ref. In Times Gone By - Deborah Hall) This item is an example of an item produced for advertising and promotion. Over 1500 pottery firms have operated in Stoke-on-Trent since the early 1700's Some lasted only a few years and some for well over 200 years. Some potters built and owned their own works. Many others were tenants in works built by others and a succession of potters occupied the same works. It was also a common practice for a works to be split between two different pottery companies or for a larger manufacturer to let out a smaller section of his works to a potter who would make wares which were not of interest to the pot works owner. Some potters purchased 'blanks' from other manufacturers and put their own decoration on them some items have two back stamps some have no marks at all. The lamp has been manufactured for decorative used, representing lamps of the late 19th and early 20th century used for lighting.The lamp is an example of a 19th century ships lamp. There is a ring of air holes around the circumference of the cone, about half way up the height of it. This demijohn was made by Bendigo Pottery for Sharpe Bros, brewers of non-alcoholic drinks such as Dandelion Ale, Ginger Beer and cordial. Sharpe Bros began in New Zealand and expanded to Australia in the early 20th century. The Marysville-Woods Point Road was originally part of the Yarra Track, constructed in the early 1860s to provide access between Healesville and the Woods Point Goldfields. Despite the steep terrain and engineering difficulties, the Yarra Track soon became a busy route used by pack horses, horse-drawn drays, and wagons. Today this sealed mountain road is a popular scenic drive between Marysville and Warburton.
