Ephemera - Ticket/s, Waller & Chester, Block of 100 tickets - 1/, Jan 2024
Ticket block headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On the rear in green ink are details of the Ballarat Tramway Museum, web address and that the organisation is a volunteer operated. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. Ticket Numbers 191001 to 192100. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. The 1/- tickets are used for Adult passengers, to save printing new tickets each time the fares changed. Commenced used end Jan. 1991. See Reg Item 5964 for the fourth run of the 1/- and 6d tickets and 1622 for the first run. Printed by Waller & Chester Ballarat Jan. 2024Demonstrates the Museums phasing out of tickets priced for the actual fare and conversion to a universal ticket that does not have to be changed for a fare increase. Functional Object - Point Bar, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1960's
Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean. The following items are associated with the display of Horse Tram No. 1 at the Ballarat Engine and Machinery Preservation Society Rally at the Ballarat Showgrounds on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1, 1998. 807.1 - A4 sheet of paper, printed by BTM on 27/2/1998, advising the horse tram was on display at the showgrounds - used at the depot. 807.2 - A4 sheets of card, printed by BTM on 27/2/1998, advising people to take care when climbing the stairs, and please do not enter signs on reverse, tours on the hours and where queries could be made. Printed by laser printer on yellow card and contained within a plastic display folder. 807.3 - Three copies of the Rally brochure or flier, advertising the Rally at the Showgrounds. Printed mid 1997, on orange paper, phone numbers etc. 807.4 - A4 exhibit sheet for use on the Horse tram at the exhibition. Overprinted by BTM on 28/2/1998. 807.5 - Souvenir Programme - 28 pages plus heavy card covers, 32 pages in all, with index on page 3, list of exhibitors, Ballarat Foundries and Metal Manufacturers listings, Agricultural manufacturers, photographs, advertisements, with colour cover. 807.6 - cast brass rally badge - with organisers name cast on an oval shaped plaque with the words "Ballarat Industrial Heritage Rally" cast under and two figures, a farmer and an miner on either side. Manila folder, Wotan flat file, with built in fold back metal clips (see images 19 and 20) holding 9 plastic sheets that have been made to hold railway (Edmondson pasteboard) or tramway paper tickets. Sheet 1 - 25 No. MMTB tickets, ranging from 3d to 2/6 and two decimal conversion tickets, including 5 tickets which have been overstamped "City Section". On the rear are adverts for Blind Babies (Royal Victorian Institute for the blind), John Randle hair salon, Leighton home builders and the Promote Thomastown Committee. Sheet 2 - 25 No. MMTB tickets - decimal currency - two conversion tickets and other decimal currency tickets ranging from 6c to 25c. Included are 6 overstamped City Section tickets. Sheet 3 - 25 No. MMTB decimal currency tickets - ranging from 25c to $1 with one ticket overstamped "City Section". Includes one ticket with a red P overstamp. Sheet 4 - 22 No. MMTB tickets - 13 tickets overstamp P, for Pensioner, one bus transfer ticket, 3 non-cash tickets, one city concession tickets and four machine issued bus tickets. Sheet 5 - small sheet with four pockets with three tickets, - MMTB 1981 single journal ticket, MMTB day tripper $2 and MMTB bus ticket. Sheet 6 - 13 No. MMTB Section tickets, hospital travel, Australia post, incapacitated soldier and special police department concession. Sheet 7 - 8 MTA paper tram tickets and 9 The Met paper tram tickets. Sheet 8 - 23 Ballarat or Bendigo tickets, both pence and decimal currency including 6 BTM or BTPS tickets. Sheet 9 - 10 VR motor coach tickets, both pence and decimal and one single ticket - East Kew to East Camberwell. Set of two bell cord supports from Melbourne cable trams. .1 - cast brass hanger with a screw hole on each side and a formed opening for the bell cord to pass through. .2 - as for .1, but with the letters "J S" on top of the formed opening - John Stephenson and Co of New York.
