Fine blue and white check, baby rompers. Bib front, bound with white bias binding. Binding around the rounded neckline extends into a tie at the back neckline. The rompers are backless. The bloused "Shorts" have two tiny pleats on each side of the centre back seam. The shorts are bound at the high leg edges, and at the waistline, with white bias binding.Sides have a 5 cm "split" at each side, and the complete waistline, and side splits are bound in white bias binding, which ties in a bow at each side. Clothing - CREAM SATIN AND LACE WEDDING DRESS, 1850
High waisted bodice, with centre front seam, back opening fastened with metal press-studs, and finished on the right side, with ball-shaped pearl buttons sewn in pairs - six groups of two. A placket extends into the skirt at back, and is fastened with metal press-studs. Bodice is gathered onto skirt at waistline, and defined with a 1.5cm wide tape. An 8.5cm wide cotton lace frill is gathered around the high neckline. The wrist-length sleeves are an extension of the bodice and have a 4cm band, and 4cm wide gathered frill at the wrist. The sleeves are shaped from the high waistline, and also at the cuff edge. The skirt has an overlay of fine lace, made up of six X 17cm wide bands of lace, with a scalloped edge. No shoulder seams. Back opening and centre front seam indicate the cutting out layout of fabric. A one cm wide ribbon finishes the neckline, and the lace frill is hand stitched to the ribbon. Clothing - BURGANDY AND CREAM BODICE, 1850's
Burgundy and cream fine striped cotton, with a woven floral motif one cm in diameter. High 4.5cm stand-up burgundy collar, with a lace overlay. A pleated, and padded cap extends from the underarm seam at the front, over the shoulders, and partway over the back panel. Sleeves tight fitting at wrist, fasten with five buttons and button holes.(Four present on one sleeve, three on other sleeve).A fine burgundy pleated band finishes the sleeve at the wrist. Waistline is V pointed at front and back. At front pleats are stitched down 11-13cm long, then open up to form shaped, folded effect at the bust line. A burgundy yoke sits behind this effect, and extends over the shoulders, and high neckline. Clothing - FULL LENGTH GREEN FLORAL DRESS WITH BLUE FRINGING - ALL HAND STITCHED
Long sleeves, with gathering at the elbow to allow movement. Finished at the wrist with two eleven cm deep frills, edged with two cm wide navy blue, cotton fringing. A four cm deep gathered frill edges the high round neckline, with a narrow piping finishing the neckline seam. Two panels at the front extend from the shoulders,to the peaked waistline. These are gathered at the shoulders, edged in navy blue fringing, and the waistline edge has the gathers alternately stitched together to form a hook and eye fasteners. A fine piping defines the peaked waistline. Bodice fully lined with cream cotton fabric. Armhole/sleeve seam finished with a fine piping.Skirt has been hand stitched into tight tiny pleats. Skirt is fully lined with cream linen, and is edged at the hemline, with one cm soft green braid. Centre front of skirt has a panel extending from the peak of the waistline, where it is 5.5cm wide to the hemline, where it is 20cm wide. This panel is edged in the navy blue fringing, and is attached to the skirt at approx 15-18 cms. Panel is fully lined with cream linen. At approx. 9-10cm spaces a 4cm fabric frill and an angled band of the navy fringing. This gives a ''ladder-like'' effect. Sleeves are bell shaped, and finished at the wrist with a 11.5cm and a 12.5cm frill, both finished with the navy fringing.costume, female, full length dress with blue fringing -

Clothing - LEATHER HAT BOX, 1887
Leather, oval shaped hat box (in which is stored a men's silk top hat - 11400.834). Lined in blue velvet, and blue silk. Looped handle, 29cm long, attached with 2.5cm circular metal studs - possibly brass. An oval shaped insert, lined with blue velvet and silk, hold the inverted top hat. This hat was owned by John Sargood ( refer enclosed notes) whose initials are marked on trhe hat-box - J.S. - two cms high. An internal strap of black fabric, has a leather tab at one end with a metal key shaped fastener. Unfortunately the other end is broken off. This strap would hold the hat in the cavity. An outer leather strap, 4cm wide passes over the lid, and fastens at a 6.5cm diameter, circular metal disk with key lock. End of this strap is also broken - a piece of leather is inside the hat box. Clothing - HELEN MUSK COLLECTION: BLACK SILK TOP
Black long-sleeved ladies’ silk blouse. High round neckline at front with V shaped lace insert from throat to bust line. Stand up lace and net collar. Top edge of collar is trimmed with pink ribbon piping and gathered cream coloured lace. There are three strips of brown tape attached vertically to the collar at each shoulder and front RHS of collar to hold plastic strips to support the collar in upright position. One piece of plastic still in place. On either side of centre front are vertical panels of pintucks with knife pleats on either side facing inwards. There are three small pink decorative buttons (1 cm) below the throat and another group of three buttons 10 cm below the first group. The top has a back opening fastened with 10 press studs. The back has two vertical panels of pintucks and knife pleats. The long sleeves have cuffs at the wrist (5 cm) with U-shaped split on upper side. Each cuff has three decorative pink buttons on one side of the U-shaped split. The lower edge of each cuff is trimmed with black lace (5 - 6 cm) that falls over the wrist. Clothing - HELEN MUSK COLLECTION: PINK SILK BODICE
Long sleeved pink silk bodice lined with pink and mauve cotton fabric. Front of bodice made of pieces with a centre seam. Centre panel insert of cream coloured embroidered net narrowing from 28 cms across high neckline to 18 cms at waist. Five black velvet bows are attached vertically at centre front from below the throat, 6 cms apart. Velvet bows hand stitched to centre front. Front panel has rounded shape dipping below the waist. On either side of front insert are two wide vertical tucks Stand up collar of embroidered net (6 cms) has two pieces of wire inserted at LHS of back opening and in front of LH shoulder. Matching wire pieces on RHS are missing. Wire pieces are hand stitched in place. The bodice has a back opening fastened with six buttons and button holes plus a hook and eye at the top below the collar. One button is missing. Buttons are white with wheel spoke pattern. Strip of hemmed silk fabric is tied to the top buttonhole. Cotton lining consists of four pieces across the back and two pieces across the front with centre seam and two darts on either side. Full gathered set in sleeves from the shoulder are gathered into a tightly fitted 20 cm lower sleeve just below the elbow. The upper sleeve has a fitted lining of mauve cotton fabric shaped to the elbow and then forming the fitted sleeve along the lower arm. The fitted lower sleeves are covered with cream coloured embroidered net and have a 10 cm opening on outer edge fastened with three buttons and button holes. Clothing - HELEN MUSK COLLECTION: BLUE SILK DRESS. PART OF A TWO PIECE ENSEMBLE
Floor length dress of royal blue silk fabric with a metallic thread forming a tinsel like pattern. There is a V neck at front with a high round neck at the back. The bodice front is made from two pieces with a centre seam. The bodice is attached to midriff panel of royal blue satin. At the front the bodice is gathered slightly onto the panel with a V shape at t centre front of the panel. At the hip line centre front the midriff panel narrows and then widens and the panel extends to the hem. The centre panel is divided and has a godet insert in the centre. Fifteen decorative fabric covered buttons with roulette loops are attached at centre of midriff panel. The back of the bodice is one piece is gathered slightly into a high waisted skirt made up of four gored pieces. The side opening (21 cm) at the waist on the LHS has three metal hooks with cotton loops and two press studs. The long sleeves are set in with lily point finish at the wrist. Full length cream synthetic fabric wedding dress with long sleeves and a train. Front and back have a yoke of lace. Three quarter length sleeves are made of the same lace with roulette trim at hem. Inner and outer edges of sleeves ruched for 3 cm. High round neck at back. V neckline at front. Front of bodice has two side darts and two under bust darts. Bodice at waist line has three decorative scallops at front and back. Synthetic fabric of bodice has woven fabric backing. Side opening on left hand side is fastened with nine press studs. Full length skirt of lighter weight opaque synthetic fabric has centre seams at front and back. Fabric is cut on the bias to form a 360? full circle skirt with a train at centre back. An additional section of fabric is attached at either side to complete the circle. At centre back of the skirt is an inverted pleat to create fullness for the train. Hemline is edged with lace with four rows of tucks above the hem, 1 cm apart. Separate petticoat of heavier woven synthetic fabric attached at waist. Petticoat cut on the bias to create 360? full circle skirt with inverted pleat at centre back to create fullness. Narrow turned over hem. Handmade ivory coloured cotton full length night gown. Front has yoke of diagonal pieces of lace with cut work and floral patterns, squares, embroidered flowers with horizontal lace pieces across shoulders. The top edge of the skirt has an edge of lace with square shapes and centre flowers of cut work across the front and back. The back has five 1cm tucks on either side of centre that extend 5cm below the lace edge. The high front neckline is square and the high back neckline is rounded. The neckline is edged with cotton broderie lace and insert lace with cream coloured satin ribbon threaded through. Below the decorative lace strip at the front is a section of fine pintucking 12cm on either side of centre and 9cm below lace strip. The night dress has a front opening extending 31cm from the throat. It has a placket with two button holes 10cm and 20cm from the throat. Two buttons on other side. No fastening at throat. French side seams. Long set-in sleeves with two rows of lace and three rows of pintucks extending from shoulder down top of sleeve to wrist. A piece of insert lace at wrist. Light and dark grey fabric with small geometric patterns. Empire line dress with long sleeves. The bodice has two panels with diagonal pleating to shape the bust line. There are two pleated pieces at the shoulders with three pleats (12cm) into which raglan sleeves are attached. The front RHS panel crosses over the left to form a V neck line. The back has a high round neck line and plain back with two darts from the waist. The long sleeves taper to the waist with a top seam. Two small pleats gather the fabric at the top of the wrist/sleeve. The skirt is made up of nine pieces -a front slightly flared panel with 2 gored panels on either side. The back is made up of four gored panels. From the level of the waist, the skirt is lined with stiffened paper like lining. From the waist to the under bodice seam it is not lined. Cream coloured knee length dress of crimplene fabric. Fabric has all over pattern of horizontal rows of looped knot pattern. Fabric also has silver thread woven into fabric. Dress has a high round neckline both front and back. Dress is A line, with front having side darts at bust line and two 30cm darts – vertical on either side of centre front from bust line to hip line. At lower end of each dart is a false pocket flap (11cm x 5cm). Back opening from centre neckline has 54cm nylon zipper with hook and loop at neckline. Back has two vertical darts on either side of centre back. Dress has short set-in cap sleeves. Wire-framed circlet. Frame covered in cotton netting. Frame has a scalloped design 3cms high. The over lapping scallops are covered in small pearl beads. Around the base of the head dress are attached net covered “lilies” each with a tear-drop shaped pearl bead at the centre. An elastic band is attached to hold the head dress firmly to the head. White child's dress of heavy cotton lace. Sleeveless bodice with arm holes edged with 3cm ungathered broderie type lace. High round neckline with 5cm lace flat collar. Back opening to waist with 5 x 1cm white buttons. LHS is seamed with buttons attached. RHS edge has button holes pushed through edge of lace. 5mm cotton tape is threaded through seam at neck line to form ties at the back. Skirt is made up of two layers of fabric gathered onto the bodice. Underneath layer is 25 cm deep - 12 cm plain fabric from waist with 13 cm edge of broderie type lace with scalloped edges. Top layer of 13cm of broderie type lace with scalloped edges. Unlined. Machine stitched. Clothing - MERLE HOULDEN COLLECTION: WEDDING DRESS, April 1985
Embroidered silk tulle with an embroidered geometric pattern - .75 cm X .05 cm. 20 cm wide deep frill at hemline. Frill is made of the same fabric, but has a border of embroidered flowers edging the frill.A narrow band of satin ribbon, .05cm wide is stitched midway on the frill. The same frill outlines a deep V shaped neckline front and back, starting 8 cms from the shoulder along the puff sleeves. The main sheer fabric extends to a high round neckline, defined with a band of ribbon and a 3 cm wide frill at the throat. Back neckline fastens with metal hook, and handstitched loop, and a zip extends on the main body of fabric. Back of skirt is gathered, and front has three pleats either side of centre to give fullness to the skirt. Fine elastic marks a frill at the elbow length sleeves, finished with a ribbon bow. Bodice and skirt are lined with silk taffeta fabric, including a frilled skirt, bodice extends to a V shaped waistline. The dress mounted on silk taffeta, extended to a train at the back. Dress is of silk chiffon, over tree bark satin, made on princess lines, with a Dior bow at the neckline. The brief sleeved bodice was cut with an oval neckline, trimmed with a flat bow. Fullness for the circular skirt was drawn to the back of the seven panel dress. A watteau pleat, train of embroidered nylon fell from high at the back of the bodice (refer 11400.493).
