The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. The title 'Ambition achieved with a little help from her friends', and is about an 18 year old whose parents died within 12 months of each other. She was doing Matriculation (similar to VCE), and faced a problem with continuing her education until Legacy heard of her situation. Legacy provided free dental care, granted her an allowance, paid her matriculation exam fees. After she matriculated her career path was a Diploma course in Foods and Food Services and Legacy paid for her first year course fees and continued her allowance. Ironing is the use of a machine, usually a heated tool (an iron), to remove wrinkles from fabric. The heating is around 180–220 °Celsius, depending on the fabric type. Ironing works by loosening the bonds between the long-chain polymer molecules in the fibres of the material. While the molecules are hot, the fibres are straightened by the weight of the iron, and they hold their new shape as they cool. Some fabrics, such as cotton, require the addition of water to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Many modern fabrics developed in or after the mid-twentieth century require little or no ironing. Permanent press clothing was developed to reduce the ironing necessary by combining Wrinkle resistant polymers with cotton. The first known use of the iron for removing wrinkles in clothes is known to have occurred in China, and the electric iron was invented in 1882, by Henry W. Seeley. Seeley patented his "electric flat iron" on June 6, 1882 (U.S. Patent no. 259,054). On 15 February 1858 W. Vandenburg and J. Harvey patented an ironing table that facilitated pressing sleeves and pants legs. A truly portable folding ironing board was first patented in Canada in 1875 by John B. Porter. The invention also included a removable press board used for sleeves. A press release from Melbourne Legacy in 1975 which relates the story of a junior legatee playing professional football. The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. The junior legatee is not named but it mentions he had a rough home life, then his father died and his siblings became State Wards. His father was a returned ex-serviceman and Legacy heard of the boy's situation and began regular visits to the family and gave not only advice but financial assistance as well, to try and provide a normal family life. The younger children were returned from state care. The future footballer endeavoured to rise above his background and on finishing school he wanted to apply for a job that called for honesty and integrity and involved responsibility for money. Thi family background was held against him until with the help of Legacy he won the day. Legacy helped provide appropriate clothing for his new position. Since then he has gone from strength to strength in his career and in his sport as well. The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. The junior legatee had been a double orphan with his father dying in 1965 and his mother some years earlier. He came from the country to Melbourne for educational purposes and contacted Legacy. Although at 19 he was older than most children Legacy help he turned to them as the next best thing as parents. He had an ambition to be a lawyer but lack the means and backing to go to University. Legacy assigned a Legatee to look after him. They two established a strong 'father and son' relationship. Legacy further agreed to pay his tuition fees at University in 1968 and assist with a living allowance. His results were so good he earned a government Scholarship in 1969, and Legacy provided books and living costs.
