This window was originally above the door at 29 Murphy Street, a butcher shop run by Jas. Ferguson and Company and later bought by Bob Hoysted who had worked for Jas Ferguson as an apprentice. The window sits in a painted wood frame and illustrates a pastoral scene with a cow, two grazing sheep and a path leading to an open gate. Butcher shops typically illustrated their business with illustrations of the animals they sold. The painted glass pieces are held together by lead. Some of the pieces are textured. The artist is unknown. It is possible that the window was imported from Europe since decorative glass works in Australia at the end of the 19th century were rare, if not non-existent. Decorating store fronts with windows such as this one was popular in Melbourne at the end of the 19th century.

They were taken around the time of the Beauville Estate’s 65th Heritage Celebration held on 10/03/2001 and donated to the Caulfield Historical Society shortly afterwards. Photographer unknown. It is important also as a very early estate development incorporating a range of features other than houses and including made roads, shops and recreation facilities. In this respect it was the forerunner of the comprehensively planned housing estate of the post war era. Rosenthal Winery in Vineyard Road, Sunbury was one of the first wineries established in the area. It was owned by R. F. Kurrle. The roofless building still stands on the property which was part of the dairy farm owned by Tom and Angela Millett. The last vintage from the property was crushed in 1910.A view of the exterior of the ruins of Rosenthal Winery showing 2 sides. It is a bluestone building with a red brick arched doorway at the front and a small narrow arched window above the doorway. Along the side there is another arched doorway at the lower level and 5 paneless windows along the upper level. REF: SHNN article Oct/Nov 1991: Pharmacy was purchased from Mr Nye by C L Mitton in 1933; later moved to 139 Union Road. Research: Stanley Morris Nye (born Ballarat in 1889, son of a Methodist minister; served AIF in WW1) moved to Surrey Hills from Auburn after 1922. He was the first occupant of 131 Union Road which was built in 1924. He is listed in the 1924,1927 and 1931 electoral rolls at 86 Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills. He died aged 44 years in December 1933 and Charles Leslie Mitton took over the business. Charles Leslie Mitton was practising in Newmarket prior to taking over the pharmacy in 1933, the year he also married Ethel Sylvia Stevenson. They lived at 65 Union Road until c1940 when they moved to Kenmare Street, Box Hill North. Was the site of the Old Colonial Bank of Australasia Ltd.9.5cm x 10cm coloured photograph of the building at 39 Sydney Street. The double story building has an ornate light-coloured facade, which darker brickwork on the sides. Arched windows on the ground floor and rectangle window with trim on the top floor. St Peter's Church was established in 1861 in the school house. In 1864 the question of building a church was seriously discussed. A foundation stone for the church was laid on 16 November 1864 by Bendan S. Hassell. The architect was Charles Davenport Cuthbert; the trustees were Somerville Learmonth, W.P. Whitcombe, Robert Wynne and J.B. McQuie. The church building committee consisted of Horace walker, J.S. Carver, John M. Fisher, Robert Williams, Thomas Gibson, John E. Hodgson and W. Lindisay Richardson. The foundation stone of the Soldier's Chapel was laid on 06 April 1917. The beautiful stained glass in the chapel was donated by Mrs W. Tunbridge and H.C. Curwen-Walker, in memory of their sons who were killed during World War One. In 1929 a new three manual organ by London's Hill, Norman and Beard was installed. It was the first in Ballarat with electro-pneumatic action.White soft covered booklet outlining the first 100 years of St Peter's Anglican Church, Ballarat. The book includes information on each of the ministers until 1961, a programme of the Centenary Celebrations, and black and white photographs of the exterior and interior of the church.
