These slides have been made by Alex Gunn and Sons, a 20th century lantern and slide maker based in Melbourne. The slides were produced for Val Morgan and Sons, a cinema advertising slide maker. Val (Valentine) Morgan (1867-1952) established a business in 1894 and by 1914 was making slides for cinemas. By 1921 the business was a company producing slides for movie houses and by the 1930s was the largest business of its type in Victoria. The company also produced the Morgans Street Directory for over 50 years in the 20th century. The company was sold in 1987. It is believed that these slides were shown in the Capitol Theatre in Warrnambool as the advertisements feature a local business, Fletts Plumbing. Most of the slides advertise Metters and Everhot bathroom and kitchen appliances, obtainable from the Warrnambool firm, going under the various trade names of Flett Brothers, F. Flett and Co and Fletts of 147 Lava Street (with ‘Lava’ spelt as ‘Laver’ in one ad). John Flett, boat and bridge builder, settled in Warrnamool in 1868 and it was his son William who first established a tinsmith and plumbing business in Warrnambool in the 1880s in a shop in Timor Street. His sons, Frederick and Charles, continued on the business after the father’s death in a Lava Street site until its demise in the 1950s. These items are of great interest as examples of cinema advertising slides used in cinemas in the mid 20th century and perhaps in the 1930s. The items have local significance as the slides feature advertisements for the business of the Flett family who were local plumbers and fitters. The slides are also of local interest as they are believed to have been used in the Capitol Theatre in Kepler Street, still operating today. These are eleven glass slides produced for cinema advertising in the mid 20th century. Three of the slides are blank and eight contain coloured images and printing advertising the products of kitchen and bathroom items and the local Warrnambool supplier. The Warrnambool Table Tennis Association has been operating since 1958. The centre is located is in Cramer Street, Warrnambool in Albert Park. Many local churches have table tennis centres. It is a popular recreational activity. This badge is retained as memento of the Warrnambool Table Tennis Association. This is a ticket dating press which was used at Railway Stations to date and validate passenger tickets. This looks like those made by the company - Edmondson - and used all over the world. There is, however, no maker's mark or stamp on this machine.This tickets press was most likely used at Portland Railway Station.Black, metal cylindrical object. The bottom of the object has a base with a larger diameter than the main cylinder. Along the length on one side of the cylinder is a hinged opening. Bunny II was built by Australian Army air corps personnel from the 161 Possums using salvaged parts in Vung Tau, Vietnam, in 1970. Dating back to the 1950s, the bunny design on the tail of an aircraft has come to represent the tradition and spirit of Naval Aviation.Colored photograph in a black frame. The Kimpton Brown flask was first described in 1913; the first successful citrated blood transfusion occurred in November 1914.Frosted, cylindrical glass flask with brown rubber stopper at top. This album contains a collection of family photos, greeting cards and hand drawn floral emblems. Among the photographs are two which have details on them: a young girl named Margaret Clarke aged 8 1870 and another of Charles Alexander Clarke. The photographers are from many places including Britain, Melbourne, Portland and a number by Daniel Clarke of Warrnambool. Daniel Clarke was one of Warrnambool’s more important photographers, operating a business for thirty years in the town. He also worked as an artist and taught art in local schools. He painted a number of versions of Tower Hill. He died in 1918 at the age of 91.This album shows a collection of photographs and cards which were important to families in the later part of the 19th century. It has artistic and historical significance, with the photographs in particular depicting many different styles of clothing and household details of the time. This photograph was taken during construction of the Rocky Valley Dam and wall. Work was commenced in early 1947 but had to be suspended during winter and then resumed in October. Work continued in 1948 with the establishment of work facilities and, at the dam site, the river was diverted through a temporary pipeline. During the 1950's, Mt Beauty's population was rapidly increasing due to the post war baby boom and because there was a young workforce moving into the area due to the opportunity available for work on the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.
