State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) ...Black and white photograph of a collision, accident, between SEC Ballarat No. 14 and a motor truck at the intersection of Drummond St. North and Webster St. mid 1939. Note debris on road behind tram, showing possible location of collision. Official SEC photo, there are other photos of this collision in the collection. The vehicle is a 1928 Model A Ford type AA. The tramcar body card shows it was repaired following an accident June 1939. (Note added 2-2-19). See Reg Item 1365.1 > .5 for the larger prints of this photograph. Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo) ...Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard, one of which has actually been used to send a message. Has a strong association with the people who sent and received the card.608 - Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.11162 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Mino Loveday Hutchins c/o P.O> Queenscliff. No date. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Souvenir 608.1 - as above, numbered 11308, has been punched on lower edge near right hand corner. Has been used as post card to a person in Alexandria?, but rear has been eaten by silverfish or similar. Did have a date stamp of "28-8-0?" See also Reg Item 2488, page 28 for ticket number 1595. Yields information about fares charged for tram services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Issued to crews.Small book with 32 pages, 27 printed on, with green cloth hard covers, sewn into cover. On front cover, printed in white ink is SECV name, logo, words, "Provincial Tramways", "Instructions for Tramway Traffic Inspectors", "Issued 1951", and a note that the book remains the property of the SEC. Inside cover as above with location for name and date to whom book was issued to. Indexed. Contents gives rules for behaviour, ticket checking procedures, reports, traffic supervision, safety and accidents. Copies 2 and 3 on display in cabinet in 39 since 1992 until 10/04. Copies 4, 5 and 6 - each have BTPS Catalogue Number written in on title page. (revised 12/8/05) Copy 7 - added 17/1/2007 - issued to Dave Kellett. Copy 9 - added 6/12/15 - issued to Tramway Superintendent - Les Denmead - 25/7/1952. Full pdf scan added 28/5/2019. Functional Object - Point Bar, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1960's

State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) ...Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean. Safeworking object - known as a section staff. Not known when made, but in use until the introduction of the electric signalling in the mid 1930's by the SEC. Simpson and Son Limited Enamellers of Pirie St Adelaide ...One of a group of signs that were fitted into tramcars in Ballarat, giving instructions to passengers about prams, behaviour, smoking, fare payment, talking to the motorman, instructions or information to drivers etc. Yields information about the sign manufacture, demonstrates the type of signs provided in tramcars.Enamel sign, black capital letters and lines on white background, titled "Passengers are requested not to enter into conversation with the motorman when tram is in motion". One of a number similar signs donated to the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society by the SEC following closure of the Ballarat Tramways system in 1971. Sign has a black enamel backing, with marks from the enamelling process. On the rear is part of a paper sign about mounting the sign with screws and not using nails and the name of the manufacturer "Simpson & S? Pirie Street......" ... City of Ballaarat ...Certificate contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 8 titled "Public Inoculation Depot / Pneumonic Influenza". Printed form on paper with perforated left hand edge, to record the H.P. James of ESCo had received the two injections for the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1919. Formed signed by Geo. F. Morton as Acting Town Clerk. Has been stamped that the second injection had been received. The required date for the 2nd injection was 4/2/1919. H.P. James refers to the outbreak in the item on the retirement of Bob Haines (Reg. Item 2529), and notes he was the "Dispenser-Inspector" of two quinine powders to each man and that they had to wear gauze masks. S Note Item Not formally Numbered.
