Ephemera - Ticket/s, Ballarat Tramway Museum (BTM), Block of 100 tickets, 1988
Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 100 tickets - green ink on off white paper, with ticket number in green ink denomination 50c, headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On rear in green ink is an advertisement for the Tram Family Restaurant, corner Macarthur and Drummond St. North. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy brown cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small brown cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. 2210 - A000001 to A000100 (The first block collected at the time of issue 6/3/1988) The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets in use as adult return fare from 12/3/88 to 30/6/91 and child return fare from 1/7/1991 to 1/11/98. Note last block issued 8/1/1991. Six issues of "Tram Tracks - The Electric Traction Monthly" of the Australian Electric Traction Association. Each issue has a standard cover, of the magazine name etc, featuring "Wee Folks Productions" models but are in different colours, all have been saddled stapled with two staples, except No. 6. The Volume and date details have been over printed. Back covers inside back covers have the same advertisements but the font varies vary. The six issues contain advertisements for the Wee Folks productions, Hartleys Sports store, Hearns Hobbies, Wattle Park, Johnson's Variety Store, Barnes Tennis Centre, The Model Dockyard, Robilt Models, Meadmore Model Engineering and Austral Bronze Pty Ltd, Hearns Hobbies, Christie Scale Model Railway and Equipment, Herbert Small (Meccano), the American Subscription Agency, Manufacturers' Mutual Insurance Ltd. 2465.1 - Vol. 2 No. 1 - 16 pages, Jan 1947, with cover printed in red. News items include Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne, Sydney, SEC, Launceston, Kalgoorlie, overseas, and AETA notes. Editorial looks at claims that the SW6 cars are the finest in the world, back numbers (notes that Tram Tracks started with a mimeographed club news sheet and now have circulation of nearly 200), costs of production etc. Has photographs of the interior of a SW6 850, a plan for Melbourne underground railway, the VR power operations room at Flinders St., Hobart trolley bus and a cartoon about Sydney traffic. 2465.5 - Vol. 2, No. 5 - 16 pages, May 1947, with cover printed in red. Has articles on Australian Light railways, Sydney's relief lines and the start of an article on NSWGT 600/1200V tramcars. Has news items on Brisbane, Sydney, MMTB, VR, Geelong, Ballarat, Launceston, Hobart and AETA notes. Set of 15 black and white views of Ballarat printed on a folded strip, glued within a grey colour cardboard folder, titled "Photographic View Booklet Ballarat". Booklet printed with an address area within a leaf and on the rear, an area where the sender could write their name. Produced by The Valentine Publishing Co. Pty Ltd Melbourne. The rear has a slit on the rear cover that allowed the folder to be secured. Pictures are: 1. Statuary, Ballarat Gardens - the flight from Pompeii 2. Sturt St looking west from the Town Hall 3. Bye-Laws jointly authorised by City of Geelong, Borough of Newtown and Chilwell and Borough of Geelong West, under the provisions of the Tramways Act 1890. Dated 1929. Black and white print of bogie tram No. 22 and another single trucker at the City terminus, Sturt St, with the Town Hall in the background. A large number of passengers board and leaving the trams. Has a bus in the distance crossing Sturt St.. Tram has the destination of Sturt St. West. In the photograph are Anderson Paper Merchants, Terminus Cafe and Penfolds Wine shop. In the bottom right hand corner is an ESCo/SEC cable termination/switch box. 3217.1 - original photo ex SEC? 3217.2 - different crop - added 21/3/2021 - has more of the original image on the right side. On rear of photograph is a white dot with "5" in red ink, and in pencil "Car 22, renumbered as 37 in 1951 in order to consolidate the bogies cars from No. 34 onwards. This was the first bogie car to run in Ballarat and ran from 1945. 35mm slide, square format mounted in a "Kodak " cardboard slide mount with Kodak logos and printing of No. 21 decorated as the Myer Christmas tram for 1968 offloading a large number of Children outside Myers Store, Sturt St. Has Town Hall in background. Note that this offloading was on the "wrong side", driver standing in front of traffic and another person standing by the door supervising. Tram has been decorated as a "show boat" with a paddle wheel, waves and the side windows covered to resemble port holes. Destination box has been covered with the words "To Myers". Tram has a roof advertisement "Myers for Everything under the tree". Theme: Santa's Showboat. Thirty two pages on gloss white paper plus brown covers, centre stapled, titled ""Panoramic Views , The Garden City, of Ballarat & District" in Gold printing. On rear has name of printers "Berry and Anderson Co Subtitle on page 1, "The Garden City being a series of 40 magnificent Panoramic Views of Ballarat and District, with special descriptive article, "Ballarat Revisited". On page 1, comprises a list of photos and a photo of Sturt St. looking east with an electric tram hauling a trailer. Pages 2 and 3 comprise the article. Most small photos are recycled postcard photos, dating from around the time of horse trams, through to the 1920, featuring the Arch of Victory, A number of photos of buildings such as Orphan Asylum, or Orphanage, Eureka Stockade, Lake Wendouree, Gardens, Ballarat and District Hospital, The Gardens and Reservoirs or Lakes. Many of the street scenes in Sturt St, feature tram in the City area - see the 11 image files including some close detail scans or horse trams turning from Sturt St to Lydiard St while one horse tram is coming up the hill on the same side of Sturt St. Features both electric and some horse trams. Many photos have marks or ID marks in bottom corners - "PS x Co" and "H.J.S" See email from Alan Bradley - in worksheet file re notes on photos. Gives details of 38 tables or runs, numbered from 1 Run to 38 Run. Each sheet headed "Weekday", three runs per sheet. Saturdays - 1 to 34, Sunday - 1 to 10. Each sheet has in the top right hand corner LJD/3/70. Time table operated until the commencement of closure of the system.
