The district of Strathfieldsaye was proclaimed in 1861 and named a Shire on the 17th September in 1866. Gold framed item. Written inside ' Silver Medal presented to wine maker Joachim Kahland, Sandhurst. From the Estate of Freida Kahland, late of King Street, Bendigo, these medallions were presented to the Society by the executor Mr. A. Lienhop on 22 May 1989. The Kahland cellars situated in King Street, Bendigo, were noted among the cleanest, driest and well kept cellars in the district and his wines were equally famous winning many local, national and overseas awards. The City of Greater Bendigo Council was constituted on 7 April 1994 as part of a statewide program of local government reform enacted between 1993 and 1995. The reform process reduced the number of councils from 210 to 78. The City of Greater Bendigo has been appointed as the successor in law for the City of Bendigo, the Rural City of Marong, the Borough of Eaglehawk and the Shires of Huntly and Strathfieldsaye and has assumed any rights, assets and liabilities of these abolished councils. On 18 November 1994 the City of Greater Bendigo Council has been appointed as the successor in law for the Shire of McIvor and has assumed any rights, assets and liabilities of this abolished council. On the 19 January 1995 the City of Greater Bendigo Council has been appointed as the successor in law for the Redesdale district of the Shire of Metcalfe. The Bendigo Womens Auxiliary was actually formed in 1936 and went through until 2002. Due the Soldiers Memorial Institute becoming a Museum and the formation of the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Inc the Auxiliary decided to cease fund raising. Their last meeting was held on 26.8.2002. During their time at SMI the Ladies conducted weddings, functions and other fund raisers to support the Bendigo RSL. At the RSL Annual Dinner each year which the ladies catered for they would present the RSL with a cheque. The Auxiliary were awarded 6 Life Memberships and two Certificates of Merit with gold badge.Charter, small brown section timber frame with details on white background. Charles Wirth was a councillor and also was president of the Shire of Strathfieldsaye. The "Old Place" was part of the property owned by members of the family. The old house at the Springs was burnt out by bushfire in January 1944 and much of the stonework was later vandalized by campers. In 1880 August Wirth lived at Mosquito Creek (Lake Eppalock, Victoria) when he married Frances Young. In 1902 they moved to part of Joseph Young's property. They milked cows and sold cattle for a living. One of their children Charles Wirth (Phil Wilkin's Grandfather) bought the land in 1935 after his parents had died. Charles Wirth was a councillor and also was president of the Shire of Strathfieldsaye. The "Old Place" was part of the property owned by members of the family. The old house at the Springs was burnt out by bushfire in January 1944 and much of the stonework was later vandalized by campers. The original Coliban Water Works were designed in 1863 by the Irish engineer Joseph Brady. The system included 70 kilometres of open water channels, aqueducts, syphons and tunnels to carry water (by gravity) from the Coliban River at Malmsbury, north to Castlemaine and Bendigo. Sedgwick is a locality in Central Victoria, Australia. It is located in the City of Greater Bendigo. Facilities include a public hall that opened in 1958 and CFA Rural fire station. It was named Upper Emu Creek until 1901 when it was renamed as Sedgwick after British geologist Adam Sedgwick.Twenty six photos taken on a field trip by the Bendigo Historical Society to "The Springs" on the main Coliban water channel from Malmsbury to the Sandhurst Reservoir in Bendigo.
