The Orchestral Society of the Young Men's Christian Association exists for the uplift of Bendigo through the agency of music. In addition to this it dedicates the whole of its profits to the extension of Christ's work among Boys. Surely this two-fold object is sufficient to warrant a large number of subscribers, and yet we regret to say we find it increasingly difficult to finance the Society, and our Association, in one to the greatest provincial cities in Australia. We would like to think that it is only sufficient to mention this matter in order to call for an immediate demand for subscribers tickets for our Orchestral Society; in order to remove the 'Damoclesian sword' of finance which perpetually suspended above our heads, and thereby insure a continuance of our Orchestral Society, and the permanence of out Association, which is in business for the men and boys of this fair City. The first in 1936 and second in 1948, when he was invited to attend the Centenary of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Melbourne. It was not long after the first trip to Australia, and tours of Canada, the USA and Europe that Sydney MacEwan decided to become a priest, and renounced tempting radio and concert contracts. During the war he was an officiating Chaplin to the RAF Father MacEwan's normal duties as a parish priest . . . John Douglas Todd Tasmanian born in Tasmaniabut lived most of his life in Sydney. As associate artist with father MacEwan, John Douglas Todd, Sydney pianist, is making his sixth tour for the ABC and his second tour with Father MacEwan. Large cream & green certificate awarded to K. Foster & H. Skewes for 2nd prize in the under 16 Piano Duet at the Eaglehawk Branch A. N. A. Annual Competitions in 1906. No. 10 is printed on the bottom left corner. Certificate has Australian Coat of Arms at the top and a lady playing a harp at the bottom. Beside her is a broad leaf plant and Music printed under it. On the right is a lady holding an artist's board. She is standing on a pedestal with Art engraved on it. On the left is a man holding a scroll. He is standing on a pedestal with Oratory engraved on it. All three people are wearing Roman type garments. Certificate is decorated with a geographic border, leaves & scroll work.
