William Morley Johnson established a stock and general auctioneers business in Kyneton in 1886 before opening a furniture store in Bendigo in 1897. The initial business operated from Pall Mall opposite the Post Office and then moved to 23 Mitchell Street in 1898. In 1906 the business moved to Sydney. The Australian Chain Manufacturing Co. was formed in 1933 to acquire the business of Luigi Benini who had started his business in Cardigan Street, Carlton with William Johnson McCredie.Catalogue for steel welded and weldless chains. The Australian Chain Manuacturing Company Pty. Ltd. A light cardboard cover in a green/brown colour. Nine paper pages with lists of costs and illustrations of types of chain. Founded by Moritz Michaelis and Isaac Hallerstein in 1866. Isaac Hallenstein had previously been partnered with Hermann Buttner and they were travelling salesmen in the Goldfields. Eventually they bought Cleghorn's tannery in Melbourne but Buttner sold his part to Moritz, Isaac's uncle. The expanded the leather business until they had branches in most states and New Zealand and London. After WW1 and the deaths of the founders, the company moved into a variety of leather goods, including shoes, footballs and golf bags. Established by Patrick Kavanagh and William English in Surry Hills, Sydney in 1922 as a subsidiary of Kande Kitchenware. They manufactured and sold kitchenware until the 1960's.Price List - July 1st 1934 KAVANAGH & ENGLISH LTD. Manufacturers of 'Kande' kitchenware Lacey street, Sydney. It consists of 10 pages printed in B&W ink.The last 4 pages have B&W illustrations of kitchenware. A small leaflet ( measuring 12.5 x 9 cm) printed in red ink is glued to the front of the booklet. It mentions 'TERMS as from 1st July, 1934' There are two staples on the spine.

Established in London in 1760 as flax dressers and producers of thread for shoemakers, the business was founded by Francis Ullathorne and continued by four of his sons. Eventually they had agencies in Paris, London and Melbourne. They imported all manner of leather goods and tannery supplies by 1866. John McIllwraith began the Melbourne Lead Works in 1854. After his death in Scotland in 1902, the business was continued by his sons, John, Thomas and David. In 1870 John became a member of the Melbourne Council and served as mayor in 1873/74.
