Book - dark grey Rexene covers, with title - "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board - Rules, Regulations". Two sections, stapled and bound within heavy card covers, 80 pages with a typed index pasted inside rear covers, printed by Sands & McDougall, Melbourne. Authorised by W. O. Strangward Secretary 1923 and printed 1924. On first page, has number "6246" stamped onto the page. Provides the Rules and Regulations of the Board concerning Accidents, fire, general instructions, signals, uniforms, staff working, special instructions to Motormen and Conductors, tickets, safety for both Cable and Electric tramways. By-Law No. 5 provided on pages 76 to 80. On page 80 has the Seal of the Board and those who signed the document - Alex Cameron Chairman, Thos. O'L Reynolds Member and W. O. Strangward Secretary. Inside rear cover is a 12 page typed index to the rules in broken into sections for each letter of the alphabet - pages for M to O missing. ANTHONY NEWMAN No 3243 enlisted in the AIF on 28.10.1914 age 22 years 5 months in the 1st reinforcements 2nd FAB AIF as a Gunner. Embarked for Egypt 22.12.1914, embarked for Gallipoli 30.4.1915, transferred to 3rd FAB 6.9.1915. Hospitalised with Jaundice serious enough to be transferred to Malta then England, returned to unit 10.3.1916. Transferred to 12th FAB 26.3.1916 then to 4th Div AHQ 31.3.1916. Embarked for France 2.6.1916, discharged from the AIF 10.5.1919 medically unfit.Timber frame, mid brown with glass front, dark green mount. Discharge Certificate for ANTHONY NEWMAN printed in black & red colour on cream coloured paper, features the Royal coat of arms mounted on 2 columns all in red ink. Illustrated in black is Britannia holding a Union Jack flag & facing 2 soldiers who are presenting arms. At the bottom is a scroll with the recipients name written in black ink. The Walton Street Fire Brigade building was constructed in 1893 (Rogers, 1973) replacing an earlier building on the site constructed for the Kew Volunteer Fire brigade. The building was demolished in 1941. In the background of the photo is a nouse on the corner of Peel and Walton Street which was also constructed in 1893 and which was to house a fireman from the brigade.This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Harry Atkin No VX21935 enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 4.6.40 age 33 years. He served in 2/2nd Pioneer Batt as part of the 7th Div AIF. Returning from the Middle East they landed in Java with what was to be called “Black Force” with other units. The Japanese invaded on 28.2.42 but were ordered to lay down their arms a day after the Dutch surrendered on March 8. In the 2nd 2nd Pioneers 865 were taken POW of which 258 died in captivity. Photograph - Black and white of a cable tram in Royal Parade or Sydney Road with the destination of Brunswick. Cable tram has four uniformed personnel on board, including an Inspector who appears to be doing a ticket check. The conductor can be seen at the back of the tram behind the person peering out.
