The building suppliers and the Sunbury CFA were sited at the northern end of Evans Street and in the past were away from the main shopping centre. As Sunbury expanded and Sunbury Shopping Square was built on the opposite side of Evans Street, the building suppliers closed down and the CFA depot was moved out of the town centre to two other locations to avoid traffic conjestion.A coloured photograph of the east side of Evans Street showing the building suppliers yard and the Sunbury CFA station and towers. John Pascoe (Jack) Mitchell Born 12/2/1888 in Violet Town, Victoria, Was a Labourer and Enlisted in the Army aged 26 in Melbourne on 27/7/1915. He was promoted to Sgt in the 5th Battalion and was discharged from the Army on 31/3/1919. Photo depicts a show entry of woolwork which won first prize and show champion at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1933 and the first prize at the Bendigo Agricultural Show in 1933. According to the donor, the entry was undertaken by the Women's Section of the Country Party to promote the use of wool in furnishings. There are two certificates in the photo, on which the word "Tarnagulla" can be seen. The women who made the items may have been from this town. Lake King in Rutherglen Park is a man made lake and was the town's original reservoir for household water supplies. After the Water Tower was built, Lake King was used by the local children as a swimming pool. The events of the afternoon included lunch for the bandsmen at the Memorial Hall, a street march to the Park, and performances at the Park, concluding with a massed march back to town. 10 bands from the surrounding districts participated.
