Victorian Symphony Orchestra, Capital Theatre, Bendigo. Thursday, 20th October, 1960, 8pm. Conductor: Rudolf Pekarek. Soloist: Jiri Tancibudek (Oboist). Programme One Shilling. Rudolf Pekarek (includes photograph) Czech born. The A.B.C.'s resident conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, can look back on forty year's experience as a conductor of the symphony orchestras. He is chiefly remembered in has native Prague for his founding of the Film Opera Koncert Orchestra, the predecessor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra. Studied oboe and violin. Founded F.O.K Orchestra in 1933. Often a guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestras. During WWII spent four years working in Polish mines as a prisoner of the Germans. Escaped in 1944, joined Czech liberators. Appointed director of the Army of the Arts Ensemble of the Czechoslovakian Liberation Army. After coming to Australia in 1949, Pekarek spent four years in Perth as . . . Jiri Tanibudek ( including Photograph) Principle oboe with the Victorian Symphony Orchestra, formerly played with the Czech Philharmonics Orchestra in Prague. Appointed with the V.S.O. in 1953, naturalized in 1956. Played with Smetana String Quartet. Australia invited him as Professor of Oboe at the New South Wales Conservatorium. Returned overseas . . . ... Community House. Some special guests were Gwen Phillips president... and organised by Carol Rasmussen of the Long Gully Community House. Some ...Cornish Association Newsletter Volume 9, Number 2, June 2003 mentions the unveiling of the Long Gully Mining Monument on May 25th. The unveiling was carried out by John Bolitho Grand Bard of Cornwall in conjunction with Cr Darrel McClure. The ceremony was followed by afternoon tea supplied by the Long Gully History Group and organised by Carol Rasmussen of the Long Gully Community House. Some special guests were Gwen Phillips president of the C.A.V. and Vivian Pryor from Newquay Cornwall. The day was finished by Annual Dinner held at the Kangaroo Sports Club. Plans for other celebrations were underway. A paper, the Cornish in the First World War, was presented by Tom Luke at the Cornish association of South Australia's seminar. Flood, on right, gets ready to take off with an unnamed Qantas pilot of the first Boeing 707/338C, with a convertible passenger-cargo cabin, in 1967. The jet, named The City of Bendigo, took the mayor, and six other Bendigonians, from Avalon to Sydney, including a cruise over Melbourne. The Bendigo party were also guests of Qantas at the then modern Wentworth Hotel. Copy of a newspaper article titled Memories of area's goldfield history. After becoming involved with a special history program at the Long Gully Primary School in 1984 as a guest speaker, Alan Crossley explained to the children the features of local goldfields and took them on several excursions highlighting the significance of the Long Gully area played in Bendigo's early growth. The school built up a collection of material of the long Gully area and the idea of a gallery was born. Accompanying photo shows Mr Crossley and the Regional Director of Education Mr Doug Weir at the opening of the gallery.
