Operation Float was an opportunity for junior legatees to experience sailing or boating on Port Philip Bay, often organised while they were at a summer camp. Junior Legatees from the country were brought to the city for a two week summer camp, often at Blamey House in Kew, while Junior Legatees from the city were billeted with families in the country. At the time Legatee Bert Davis was CFO, and his daughter Louise was asked to help with the running of the Blamey House camp. The scrapbook was deposited with the Kew Historical Society for safekeeping. It is complete and comprehensive allowing for interpretation.A scrapbook, compiled by members of the Lioness Club of Kew containing photographs and typed profiles of members dating from 1982-7. The profiles were added at monthly intervals under a heading "Lioness of the Month". The scrapbook also contains some annual reports and president's reports. At the back of the scrapbook are two newspaper cuttings (The Free Press, March 19, 1980), profiling the new president, Mrs Helen Joyce, and the Club. During World War II, the School Committee organised the digging of trenches at the school as a precaution against enemy air raids. The trenches were filled in at the end of the war in 1945. Kew was gazetted as a Municipality in 1860, as a Borough in 1863, as a Town in 1910, and as a City in 1921. Under a conservative Victorian Government, led by premier Jeff Kennett, Councils across Victoria were amalgamated, including the City of Kew, which was joined with the Cities of Hawthorn and Camberwell to form a new City of Boroondara (1994- ). This is one of two photographs recording the last Kew Council and senior corporate staff in 1994. As result of council work it has been necessary to remove the 900 mm water main, excavate lower and replace the water main. In the first photo Ganger one operator Mr. Allen Parker at work on the main trunk water feed while Mr. Paul Somerville operated the rock breaker and Mr. Max Welsford operated the angle grinder. Mr A J Horan was Head Teacher at Linton State School from 1895 to 1909. Lena Allan, one of the pupils identified in the photograph, later became a teacher at the school.Original sepia photograph of group of school children with male teacher dressed in suit and tie standing at left hand side. Some of the pupils - Lena Allan, Lily Ball, Pearl Nelson, Clarice White and Pet Todd - are identified (hand writing in biro) on the front of the photograph. On the reverse of the photograph there is a lengthy inscription written by Mrs Stella Surman.
