The postcard photograph shows PMTT No. 23 a Maximum Traction bogie, straight sill combination with drop end at the Malvern Burke Road terminus, c1916. See page 60 of Destination City 5th edition for details of the tram. Purchased by the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, sold to the Hawthorn Tramways Trust during 1916, in 1920 absorbed by the MMTB and classed "O". They were sold to Adelaide in 1927. There is a large "1" in the front window, indicating the route number and the destination of Burke Road. The Conductor of the first set is walking across the road, possibly to punch the Bundy clock. In the background are buildings for Harris Manufacturing Tailors, Granger? The photo shows a cable tram set, trailer 357, at the Flinders St terminus in Elizabeth St. The tram has the return destination of North Melbourne. Note that the destination signage is both black on white letters and white on black letters. The grip or dummy is well loaded with passengers queing to board the trailer. Possibly a warm day given the ladies clothing. In the background are many pedestrians crossing the road to the station. On the corner is a Tea Rooms shop. During the period 1924-1967 Bellfield operated as a licenced hotel. It became a popular destination for couples on their honeymoon The hotel was razed to the ground by fire in 1967 and was never rebuilt.
