Photograph shows batching concrete by the MMTB prior to the use of truck mounted concrete mixers which delivered the concrete to the worksites. The photo shows workers loading portable boxes of a fixed size and fitted with handles with aggregate or sand and then carrying it over to the loading device for mixing. Along the lower edge of the photograph can be seen a bag of cement which would be split and loaded into the mixer. Workers would then barrow the mixed concrete to the track or worksite being concreted. See March 1961 Electric Traction - "W7 1024 was decorated and illuminated for the centenary of the City of Kew, and was scheduled to run between December 4 and December 16, 1960, from Kew Depot on the Mont Albert and North Balwyn lines. Its term was extended to mid-January and it was still running in early February. It was similarly decorated for the centenary of the City of Fitzroy in 1958 (see illustration E.T. 10/60). Details how Police would signal for the number of trams to cross in either direction and how the signalman would operate the signals and the cable depression lever for Collins St cable cars. The Rules for signalmen dated 1/7/1921 and signed by J G Roberts, Manager Cable system for the MMTB. The City of Melbourne initially wanted a conduit system, main issue was overhead wires, looks at other possibilities.
