Metal gift box or tin, contained within a black card cover with Yarra Trams name on the outside. The Gift box or tin, with lid, has the words "Celebrating our first year together", with the Keolis Downer EDI Rail logo and Yarra Trams logo. The box contains a silver coloured metal torch, with LED bulbs fitted with a cotton hand strap. Three AAA size batteries by Ninghai Hengjui Battery Co. contained within the dark grey foam holder. The torch has been printed with the Yarra Trams logo. Folded with in the box is a 10 folded card giving the achievements of the first year (from 30 Nov. 2009) to Nov. 2010. Green cloth, covered heavy cardboard both sides ticket or pass, titled "Tramway Pass - 1953-54" for limbless and disabled soldiers, issued by the MMTB with MMTB logo on the rear. Ticket printed with paper sheets glued to the cloth on the inside and a photo of the person issued to glued to the right hand side. Issued to John Cameron of 82 Victoria St Carlton, signed by the Secretary (Mr Warner). Note date of pass is 1-10-53, though it appears to be issued in 1955. Available to 30-6-1954. Has a photo of Mr. Cameron. Advised Mr. Cameron had lost a leg during the war. Note - not available on all night services. Thirty two page landscape booklet on semi gloss white paper with off white or cream cover and single supplementary white sheet tipped onto the inside of the front cover titled "See Melbourne's Beautiful Beaches and Garden Suburbs from a Special Bus". Saddle stapled, printed letterpress. Text printed in black and green ink. Cover green ink only. The book advertising MMTB's Special tourist bus, giving overall tour details on page 1, including fares, time of departures and reservations. Each tour has a map showing the route, details of the tour route with notes and photographs. Page 14 shows a maximum traction tram on the reserved track in Dandenong road and page 30, W2 488 outbound in Victoria Parade. Page 32 has an advertisement for the Round Trip by Tram 1/-. Front cover has details of the departure times and fares and a photo of the Tourist Bus. The supplementary sheet has been prepared for the tours that operated daily from Sun Sept. 18 to Friday May 31, except Anzac Day. Grey cardboard with light grey cloth end binding covered book, 124 pages "MMTB Electric Tramways and Motor Omnibuses Sections and Fares", dated July 1976. Inside the book - see image 80i4, was a heavy sheet of cardboard headed "Fares Charges from 4/7/76" giving the adult and child fares for each section of travel. Details the various section stages and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares and has photos or drawings of the various special tickets, eg passes or prepaid tickets. Hilary Bennet Mason (born 25/12/1911 in North Melbourne; died 16/3/2008) married Olive Marjory Muridge (B 20/7/1915; D 26/9/2001) on 30 September 1940. They has one daughter, born in 1947. Hilary had a number of occupations in his lifetime. His daughter referred to him as a tram conductor. The family lived at 7 Charles Street, Surrey Hills from c1960, having purchased it from William Stanton (Stan) Philp, a baker, and his wife Eileen. The title originally extended over 2 plots. The Philps sub-divided the land and built a new house for themselves at No 9. No 7 Charles Street had a well under the kitchen window; the house was extended in 1971/72; it was sold after Hilary Mason died in 2011. [REF: Personal communication from the donor; Alan Holt property register and online research.] The handwritten timeline refers to the area having been "called Irish Town as Catholic's were in the majority." Most of the writing is that of Hilary Mason, although some blanks have been filled in by another (unknown) hand. There is also an entry by John Whitford, who moved into a new home on the corner of Charles and Arthur Streets in 1982. The last entry is dated June 1996, when Hilary Mason would have been c 85 years old. Comment in relation to this catalogue entry: "One of the occupation that Mr Mason had was a Radio shop in Bridge Road, Richmond, called Mason's Radio. I worked for Mason's Radio in January 1963 to December 1964. Mr. Mason was a true gentleman, very kind and treated me like a son. Regards M.Zammit." These include house advertising flyers, newspaper clippings of a general nature and death notices, tickets, etc. The handwritten notes mostly pertain to a timeline of residents and their comings and goings to and from Charles Street in Surrey Hills, but also include some reflections on social history. Memories of other residents of the street are recorded.
