Compiled by an unknown person as a record book of cable tram operational tickets or fare history for each location with general notes and some notes on electric trams. Compiled through to 26/10/1930, with some loose notes about the final closure of the cable tram system. For each cable tram car house (depot), Power House or Winding house, or route, notes on tickets, dates, rope speed, fares, replacement electric services or buses. Radio transcript - 12 foolscap sheets, typed. Although not named, appears to have been prepared for or by Mr. Strickland describing "inside information regarding tramcars". Notes cable trams, conversion, sale of trailers and dummies or grip cars, the variety taken over from the trusts, design of new cars (180 in service at the time of the report), open cars vs closed cars, seating and standing capacity, speed, braking system, step heights, destination signs, lifeguards. Gives a description of Preston Workshops, finishing soon, description of the tramcar construction, roofing, painting, sourcing of materials, timbers, cost per tram of 3250 pounds, depots, breakdowns, overhauls, workshops, collision repairs in 1925, construction of 10 safety cars. Digital image of "Electric Tram Driver's Certificate No. 407", issued to D. (Daniel) Patience, signed by G. Barker Instructor, with "A. W. Murdoch" stamp authorising the document, dated 23/3/1929. Donated by Betty (daughter - aged 90) and Cheryl Williams (grand daughter) of Daniel. Reported to have been the first driver leaving the then new Camberwell depot. Born in Avoch Scotland, was a police constable there, before emigrating to Melbourne. Was a cable tram Gripman in the Albert Park Area. Became an electric tram driver, then signalman at St Kilda Junction and trained as an inspector, but did not like the green uniform. Ran in the Stawell Gift of 1925 (injured foot during the race), was a Navigator on Transport RAF/RAAF flights during WW2. War memorabilia to the War Memorial Canberra. Memorandum consisting of 11 quarto type and handwritten sheet or letters, appointing David Eakins as a assistant to Mr Lormer for the preparation of the General Scheme. Includes references, letter of application, and other reference material supplied by Mr. Eakins and signed by the Chief Engineer Mr Strickland. Memo to the Chairman dated 26/6/1922. Mr Eakins was to become the Chief Engineer in the 1950's.
