Memorabilia - Decimal conversion - training materials, Motivational Sales Promotions, 1966
As part of the process of training workers who handled cash (coins and banknotes) these training material replica (colour only) notes were produced. Has the equivalent value given under the written face value of the note. This set was used by the Post Office. Decimal conversion occurred on 14/2/1966. A $5 note was not introduced until 1967. Used by the MMTB as part of a tram crew or inspectors uniform .Demonstrates a MMTB uniform button.Set of two uniform buttons - two pressed metal sections provided with a lug or eye to sew the button onto a uniform jacked. The nickel-plated badge is stamped "Stokes & Sons Victoria" while the brass button is stamped "Stokes Australia". Document - Patent Applications - Trolley Pole safety appliance, Percy Ireland, 1920
Percy Markham Ireland (1893-1976), a tramway rolling stock engineer with the MMTB and a Military engineer applied in 1920 for a patent for a "Trolley Pole safety appliance for electric trams and the like". He was successful in gaining a patent in a number of countries including the UK, France, Germany, Canada, the USA, and New Zealand. The associated documents show the differences in making patent applications in various countries. From research undertaken by the Museum it appears that while his patent applications were successful, his invention was never actually implemented on tramcars in Melbourne". Collected by Noelle Jones as research for an article in the March 2023 issue of the Museum's magazine Bellcord, giving details of Mr Ireland's tramway and military career. The following notes are general across the collection unless written for a specific Ballarat item. Brown leather covers, over heavy board, tied together with a black shoe lace, light grey paper inside covers holding some 63 sheets of card on which photos have been mounted using photo corners of various types, captions in blue or black ink. Refer to dbtext\Archive Document files\Reg Item 5009. Each page scanned as a hi res (1200 dpi) jpg file using the Fujitsu Scan Snap Scanner SV600.
