Run number plates used for the vehicle identification system used in the AVM. Item was pushed into a slot of a reader which then recognised the identification through the series of holes on the left hand side. Fitted with metal strips, riveted on, to enable the card to be slotted into the holder by the crew member and then withdrawn when not required. Understood that the tram carried one of these at one end and then another without the holes at the other end. Number has been engraved into the plastic sheet and then painted in black. Used to identify the depot and "run number" or timetable that the tram was running on, two in each tram, to enable monitoring by inspectors and crews. One of a series of photographs, taken by Edgar James Dower in the second decade of the twentieth century. Born and raised in Olinda, his family later moved to Surrey Hills. He worked as an adult as a clerk in the city office of the Metropolitan Gas Company, and in his role as a 'collector', he was able to photograph scenes including the construction of tramlines, railways and associated buildings in Kew, Hawthorn, Camberwell and Surrey Hills. Later he established a real estate agency with his brother - the E.J. Dower Real Estate Agency, Dandenong Office.The image is an historically significant record of the development of transport infrastructure which was used to connect Victorians in the first two decades of the twentieth century. This development resulted from increases in population and the consequent extension of Melbourne's suburbs. Significant, one of the earliest details of the Red Cross Society in WW1 Very significant, very rare.Paper poster, headed Red Cross Society. Asking for interested citizen in the Camberwell/Canterbury area to form committees to raise 600 pounds to buy a fitted out Motor Ambulance to send over to France as part of the war effort. In October 1914 not one motor Ambulance was on the French front as the War office had banned any Red Cross involvement with wounded soldiers. Once General Kitchener was made aware of this situation he immediately overruled the ban and 100 motor ambulances and 1000 Nurses were sent to France. This fund raising by Camberwell Residents for a Motor Ambulance to be sent to France would have been among the first in WW1.See photo for complete details

The RDNS Sister is from Camberwell Centre and is visiting the lady in her home where she is attending to wound care needed on the lady's left foot. She has already attended to the wound care required on the ladies right foot. The Sister had used a dressing tray which, contained a bowl for lotion, the forceps and swabs which had been sterilized at Camberwell Centre. Sterile dressing material had been used to clean and dress the wound. The scissors had been sterilized before use..The Trained nurses of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS), from its inception in 1885, provided wound care to their patients, who ranged in age from the very young to the elderly. As research developed better products and dressing materials, the methods and medication applied to wounds changed. MDNS received Royal patronage in 1966 and as Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), the Education department developed programs, such as the Leg Ulcer Management Program to provide their Sisters with methods of best quality care. They introduced RDNS Wound Care Specialists who did assessments and provided advice and support to the District nurses working in the field. The Sisters liaised with the patient’s doctors and hospitals to provide information on the progress of patient’s wounds and to receive any change of wound care from the Doctors. Destination roll that was used in Camberwell Depot trams, Melbourne, until the late 1960's. Roll on linen, with white letters on black background. Has stencilled words "STOP CAMB" on bottom of roll, generally stencilled, though a few handwritten, miniature destination on rear to assist driver to locate the destination. Letters approx. 140 high. Roll consists of an unpainted section 525 long at top and 165 long unpainted section at base. Painted section approx. 9.9m long. Has on the bottom of the roll, a section which has been added to the roll or repaired by adding a new section. Some repainting of the old destinations also apparent. The middle of three "CITY" destinations and other parts adjacent have been repaired. A year later she became resident vocalist at the Ress Oriental Hotel with the Lennie Holmes Trio. Later, Robin married pianist Peter Jones, singing under the name 'Robin Vanser' in clubs in Sydney and regional New South Wales. She was booked for a Vietnam War tour and also sang in Tahiti. Returning to Melbourne, her agent booked her to appear in shows in Tasmania including West Point Casino and Melbourne country venues. After training as a Cartographic Draftsman within the mining industry, I worked as a property illustrator for real estate firms in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 22 years from 1983. I initially photographed houses with a Polaroid camera and made a 'thumbnail' sketch while there. The photos were used to scale off a sketch in pencil and then that sketch was overlaid with drafting film and the 'pen and ink' completed. The pens I used were the Rotring ‘Rapidigraph’ drafting pens. The ink was also made by Rotring (German).The film was ‘Rapidraw’, polyester drafting film, double matte.
