Paddy Craine is believed to have worked a number of claims, this one is thought to have been along the Carngham Road. Paddy was known as a Linton "character" and was something of a loner. He served in World War I and his name appears on the OLA Honour Roll. Dr Donaldson (Snr) owned the block of land on the corner of Sussex and Grant Streets, Linton. He had a ten-room house set on the back of the block (where the block backs on to Surrey Street), with a large barn fronting Sussex Street. Other identifiable buildings in the photograph are Ball Brothers blacksmith's shop, the Royal Standard Hotel on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets, the Shire Hall, Criterion House and Joseph Shepherd's store. The roof of Oscar Ball's house can be seen.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows houses and other buildings along Sussex Street. The view is to the south (up the hill) from the Ballarat entrance to Linton. A large barn, enclosed by a picket fence, is in the foreground. This photograph was sent by May (Marian) Hyatt, née Nicholls, to her brother and sister-in-law Edgar and Ethel Nicholls. May's note on the back of the photo identifies the children as "Ida" (Ida Hyatt, May's daughter) and "Mollie Norris". It also identifies a "Mr Greig", probably William Michael Grigg, who lived near the Hyatt family on Geelong Road, Linton. (Mollie Norris, a daughter of Lilian Violet ('Cis') Grigg and her husband Gerald Norris, was W.M. Grigg's granddaughter.)Black and white photograph which shows a very large pine tree that has either been felled or has fallen. Co. 1932 sold for scrap, possibly burnt out and scuttled Visakhapatnam as breakwater 7th January 1933.Half ship builders model in glass case with rear mirror. The original ship was a passenger/cargo steamship built by Palmers, on Jarrow-on-Tyne in 1910 for A Currie & Co. of Melbourne. 4,824 gross tons. 399.93ft x 53.15ft (121.9 x 16.2m).
