William Buckley was born in 1780 at Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. After time as a bricklayer and soldier he was caught with stolen property, sentenced on 2 August 1802, and transported to Australia. Between October, 1803, and January, 1804, he escaped from Sullivan's Bay in the Port Phillip district and spent the next 32 years in the company of aborigines wandering between Port Phillip and the near western district as far as Lake Corangamite. In about 1835 he was discovered by three white men, members of John Batman's Port Phillip Association investigating the area with a view to future settlement.Wild white man. Kevin Hayden. Electoral Roll for the Commonwealth Division of Bendigo, State Assembly District of Bendigo, and State Electoral Province of Bendigo Subdivision of Eaglehawk for 1970 (made up to 2nd January 1970). Voting registers, or electoral rolls, are a census of those who were eligible to vote. They are valuable because a country-wide census was not taken until 1911. Early electoral rolls give an individual name, residence, status of property occupation/ownership, and the rate value of the property. Electoral Rolls are arranged by electoral district and subdistrict. Name, Address, Occupation and gender for thirteen subdivisions. Electoral rolls were published by each state during election years. Bendigo RSL Sub Branch Annual reports. Initially in the front are two photo copies of Annual report and balance sheets for the years 1934 & 1952 under the title R.S.S.A.I.L.A. The first original entry is for the year 1964, the last for the year 2000. There is one RSL Museum Annual report for the year 2000. There are also three x RSL Women’s Auxiliary reports for the the years 1990,1954 & 1996. There is also a number of Annual Welfare & Appeals reports. Has a strong association with the tours to mark the closure of the Bendigo Tramway system and Graeme Breydon.Edmondson pasteboard railway ticket, No. 0085, dated 12 Feb. 1972, for use on an ARHS tour to Farewell Bendigo prior to the closure of the system. Ticket base is pink with a thick purple stripe, which is printed in landscape format. Ticket number in reverse. Adult - Economy, available on the day of travel only and on the special train.
