Functional Object - Ticket Wallet with 9 blocks of tickets, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), late 1960's
Demonstrates the method of dispensing tickets by conductors, how the tickets could be arranged, although the arrangement may not exactly represent the 1958-1963 arrangements of a ticket wallet. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented. Has a strong association with Travis Jeffery.Ticket wallet with a set of nine 1950-60's Ballarat tram tickets set up to represent a typical conductor's set of tickets by Travis Jeffrey, though these may not exactly line up with the fares at any one period - 1958 to 1963 following the introduction of concession tickets. Does not have a 3d City Section Ticket. 4000 - Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Stitching is a light cream or white colour cotton. Document - Advertising Rate Card SEC, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), Late 1940's or early 1950's?
Demonstrates aspects of the method of selling advertising space inside tramcars by the SEC and gives rates.Pamphlet - folded card - giving advertising rates for Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat tramcars. Details the number of trams in each city, the rates for a standard size internal card, based on the number of cards, larger cards, half yearly and quarterly. Gives reasons why you should advertise. Has the same name, telephone number and the name "Alan Davis Pty Ltd of 149 Castlereagh St Sydney" on the card as well. Not sure of their relationship. On the front small folded section, an image of an owl and the statement "Be Wise and Advertise". Significant in being a sheet regarding tramcar braking systems and how considered at the time - 1950. No mention of sand in braking technique.Was contained within Reg Item 3519 in which located in the filing cabinet 8/2006. Small typed carbon copy instruction or "Notice to All Traffic Staff" titled "Braking", discussing the names of emergency brake. Notes air braked trams have on emergency brake only - the air brake. Stopping trams electrically is not regarded as brake equipment, and should not be used unless air brake is defective. Dated 24/11/1950. Also a pre-decimal currency document.Set of two foolscap duplicated sheets, titled "Sections - Increased Fares and Check Identification", dated 13 October 1965. Gives details of the increased fares details and how it applied for each section on the tramway by fare value. Gives details of what punch destination number to punch on the tickets, in bound and out bound. Two copies of a Carbon typed copy of a technical procedure - 6 pages - "Extract from the 'Proceedings of the Electrical Association of New South Wales' session 1910 - 11" - giving advice on the location of Trolley Wire" giving the guide on how to locate trolley wire on curves and junctions, gives formulas, positioning at frogs, notes regarding various cars and trolley wire height includes notes on cross falls of track, a table of aluminium copper alloys - bending strength and failure modes. Consists of five pages with two blue print drawing. Yields information about the instructions about Signalling system on Wendouree Parade and Bridge St - Forest City signals.Five page, foolscap duplicated document, stapled in the top left hand corner, titled Forest City Signals, undated, has letters S4 in top right hand corner of first sheet, giving details about the Forest City signalling system installed in Ballarat, particularly around Wendouree Parade and the depot. Explains how the system operates, gives instructions, details of the system, location of the loops, trams following each other, power failure. Also gives details of how the Bridge St system operated and the switch at Grenville St. Note: The locations of the signals may not be not as detailed as in the Driver Training Manual - See Reg Item 3486. Does not provide instructions for Lydiard St North or Sebastopol routes. Also has pedestrians in view.Black and White photograph, No. 15 and 24 at the city stop, corner of Lydiard and Sturt Sts, with the Town Hall in the background. No 15 has the destination of Mt Pleasant. Two ladies are sitting on a seat with Reid's mens wear shop in the background. Two other ladies are walking in front of the trams. Has a strong association with tram crews and the ticket / revenue collection system. Tram crews used them to contain their tickets when selling to the passengers.3674.1 - Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched with dark brown cotton, on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Also yields information on a route number system, not generally used for the public.Booklet with green cloth covers, titled in gold block "State Electricity Commission of Victoria - Tramways - Rules Governing Employees - May 1936"on heavy card with inside paper covers on heavy paper and 24 pages printed both sides, with stitched pages with white cotton. Gives details with an index of the rules for Motorman, Conductors and both types of employees together. Has an "Issued to" form inside the front cover - no entries.
