Ballarat Trades Hall was part of the Intercolonial Trades Hall Congresses created for the purposes of collective organising within labour organisations. There were eight Congresses held within Australia: - 1879 Sydney - 1884 Melbourne - 1885 Sydney - 1886 Adelaide - 1888 Brisbane - 1889 Hobart - 1891 Ballarat (after the Maritime Strike in 1890) The political organisation of the labour movement and of restructuring trade union organisation under the Australasian Federation of Labour were significant agenda items. - 1898 Adelaide The following items were regularly discussed: - legislation of trade unions- organisation of labour - abolition of ‘Chinese and coolie immigration’ - Compulsory Court of Arbitration - Employers Liability Act - legalisation of the 8 hours system - land nationalisation - manhood suffrage - direct representation of labour in Parliament - appointment of working men on technical and other boards - free compulsory and secular education by the state and regulation of apprentices. Some of the resolutions passed were about: - Commonwealth Draft Bill - assisted immigration - payment to Members of Parliament - single tax, paid union organisers - minimum wage and industrial federation. An exercise book recording all certifications of appreciation given to individuals or businesses for their assistance to RVIB. Covering the period 17/4/1986 to 17/6/1997, the name of the individual/organisation, reason for certification and date have been recorded. This is the only record book that provides insight into the rationale behind these certificates, which were often provided to recognise multiple years of volunteer work for or significant financial contributions to the organisation. 1 v.royal victorian institute for the blind

Daily report on the health of children who resided at the RVIB school and the medications that were administered to them during 1958 and 1959. Some activities undertaken by the children are also noted by staff who lodged both day and night reports in this volume. Loose documents have been stored inside the back cover: messages between the day and night staff, a letter to Matron from the City of Melbourne health department notifying her of an immunisation visit in 1959, and a copy of an outward letter to the Lady Superintendent of the Royal Children's Hospital regarding a post-graduate student group visit on February 10, 1959. 1 v.On cover "Minute book".rvib burwood school

The following information was recorded: full name, date of birth, date of admission, full name of parent or guardian, full address of parent or guardian, school last attended, grade into which admitted or transferred to during, date/month/date of last attendance and destination of pupil. They include from 4/10/1984 meeting that Mrs K. Rose advised of the impending resignation of Mr J.O. Wicking as President of the Association for the Blind (AFB) and paid tribute to the close interest he had taken in 'Mirridong' and the support offered during his twelve year term as President. She also reported the resignation of Mr J.W. This has been due to not only the bout of influenza but also a number of other unrelated medical conditions.
