Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. In November 2001 Australian SAS troops joined the war in Afghanistan under the operation name "Operation Slipper." Australia's military contribution to the International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan ended in 2014, making Operation Slipper Australia's longest running operation. According to the Department of Defence, "the ribbon is khaki representing the dominant ground colour of the terrain, edged with light blue and white stripes representing the sky above the mountains and the snow on the mountain peaks with central stripes of purple and red representing the ADF and the conflict in Afghanistan." This commemorative medallion features the Afghanistan Medal ribbon colours encircling the figure of an ADF member holding a weapon. The image is in relief. A later version of that of Reg item 271.Set of six foolscap sheets duplicated, titled "Tramcar Emergency Braking", giving instructions for emergency braking of tramcars for Ballarat and a set of relevant questions and answers, subtitled "Tramcar Braking". Gives description of system, the various means of what to do if the system fails - dated 2th January 1965. The Questions and answers concern the braking system. Sheets stapled twice along the top edge. See Reg Item 261 for an earlier version, 3520 for a 1950 instruction on the same subject and 5370 for an undated version. ... Operations ...Significant in being a sheet regarding tramcar braking systems and how considered at the time - 1950. No mention of sand in braking technique.Was contained within Reg Item 3519 in which located in the filing cabinet 8/2006. Small typed carbon copy instruction or "Notice to All Traffic Staff" titled "Braking", discussing the names of emergency brake. Notes air braked trams have on emergency brake only - the air brake. Stopping trams electrically is not regarded as brake equipment, and should not be used unless air brake is defective. Dated 24/11/1950.
