Album comprises heavy cardboard covers with brown Rexene covers, with inside papers of heavy dark grey photo album paper, 36 leaves of dark grey photo paper and two brass interscrews within black grommets. See Condition Details re damage to back cover. Album contains 32 photos - personal prints of Keith Kings. Title page has been hand written to Les Denmead, dated 6/7/1970, thanking Mr. Denmead for his assistance over the years. Photos divided into the three SEC Provincial Tramway cities, each with a typed name proceeding the set of photos. Two further photos of Geelong were at the rear of the album, but were not in position when catalogued. One of these photos may be Reg. Item 1874 - photo of Geelong scrubber tram. Each of the photographs have been separately registered, as shown in the table below. Scanned images made of front and back of the photos. Demonstrates how ESCo managed Weekly tickets during the late 1920's and yields information about the way the system was arranged. The source of the ticket, NSW tramways is significant in that it was obtained by them as a sample.One penny or 1d paper ticket, ESCo, Ballarat Tramways, printed on fawn paper, No. D3339. Ticket has up and down directions, conditions of use, not issued on public holidays, special cars or railway picnic days. Front of the ticket (with the number), has it available for: Bridge and Drummond St Sturt St and Macarthur St Macarthur St (Junction Wendouree Parade and Gardens) On the rear - the ticket is made available for use by a child in the following: Orphanage and Grenville St Mt Pleasant and Grenville St Bridge St and Service St {stop along Sturt St West} Bridge St and Macarthur (via Fraser St) {Alan Bradley advised 29/6/14 by email, former name of Ripon St North once it crossed over Mair St heading north. - see note below} Sturt St and Gregory St (via Lydiard) Hello Warren, The View Point line leaves Sturt St and turns into Ripon St. It crosses Mair St, does a dogleg, and went into Fraser St. then past the Powerhouse. The descriptions of the horse tram lines to be constructed by the BTCo, and the electric lines to be constructed by the ESCo, specify that the lines run along Ripon and Fraser Sts. Set of two letters between Mr. P. J. Pringle of ESCo Ballarat and Mr. D. Murdoch, General Manager of the TB Melbourne and a copy of the Victorian Government Gazette of Wed. 20/3/1929 regarding fares along the same routes that trams and buses travel. In Bendigo and Melbourne, the fare by bus was 1 penny more than the tram. 1976.1 - Victorian Government Gazette - No. 32 - 20/3/1929 - pages 1067 to 1124 - with page 1081 highlighted on the front cover in blue pencil and a ESCo date received stamp (16/4/1929) on the front cover. Page 1081 details the City of Bendigo's By- Laws and Regulations No. 58, pursuant to the Urban and Country Act of 1927, relating to Motor Omnibuses. Details the requirements of bus owners in the Bendigo district, definitions, licence fees, routes and fares, timetables over five pages. Following this item are similar regulations for the Shire of Mildura (p1086). Item 335H x 210W, consisting of four staple sections. Damaged on left hand edges, particularly around page 1081 where the two letters were pinned. (Removed at time of cataloguing). Also yellowing and damage due to silver fish along bottom edge. Printed by H.J. Green Government Printer, Melbourne. 1976.2 - Letter from Mr. P. J. Pringle (ESCo) to A. D. Murdoch Manger TB dated 16/4/1929 forwarding a copy of the Bendigo Motor Bus regulations and noted that where the buses traversed the tram routes, the fare is 1d more and that the buses have regular service schedules. Licence fee is 5/- per annum per passenger that the bus can carry. Mr. Pringle thought that this was inadequate. Also notes the cost of insurance. On ESCo letterhead - two pages white paper, has been folded into 6, pinned in the top left hand corner., damaged on the right hand edge and top left hand corner. Size 262H x 203W. 1976.3 - Carbon copy of letter from Mr. Murdoch to Mr. Pringle on pink paper, dated 20/4/1929 thanking of the advice and noting that on the Melbourne - Brighton - Caulfield route, the minimum fare where the bus traverses the same route as the tram, is 5d, while the tram fare is 4d. All corners damaged or folded, silver fish damage on right hand edge. Size - 336H x 2089W. Murdoch, General Manager of the TB Melbourne regarding the controversy with the SEC regarding the possible takeover by the SEC of the Ballarat and Bendigo power supplies and the trams. 1973.1 - Letter from ESCo to TB dated 19/7/1927 and received by TB 21/7/1927 forwarding some cuttings regarding the matter (see Reg. Item 1973.3 and 1974.). Yields information about the planning options that were used for formulate garden routes timetables at various service levels.Single rolled graph sheet which has two sets of runs drawn on it, showing the Gardens via Convent and Ripon St routes from Grenville showing how the tram service would operate and where the trams crossed each other. One graph set shows a 6 car, 7.5 min service and the other a four 10 minute service. Gives the miles and minutes. Would have been used to prepare rosters and timetables. Sets out the various tickets used by ESCo at the time and most likely used as a training aid for new conductors on both the electric and horse trams. Demonstrates and yields information about the considerations made for Weekly Tickets during the late 1920's.Set of handmade or hand written sheets regarding weekly tickets in Ballarat - using ink and pencil .1 - handwritten double foolscap sheet - titled "Weekly Tickets Ballarat" and dated 2/6/28 - sets out an extensive table of section, length, existing fares, present weekly and proposed tickets - 12 trips and 24? trips. Sets out conditions, current sales and notes. .2 - set of two Foolscap ruled sheets - titled "Weekly Tickets" detailing where they would be sold (the Showroom), the method of sales and accounting practices and when it can be used, reflects back to 1921 practices. Has a hand written section on the rear on the first sheets (images i2 to i4) .3 - single foolscap ruled sheet with further notes on weekly tickets (in light red ink), with two possible sketches of possible tickets on the rear in pencil. Forty Eight page, side staple book within blue Rexene covers. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways /Electric System /Instructions to Drivers in Electric Car Operation" Dated 1966. Printed by Regent Press Pty Ltd, 457 Plenty Road, Preston. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, photos of various types of controllers, an A.B.C. for tramways drivers - "always" points to remember and has a reference index. Copy 1 - has telephone numbers of Training School and specific pointers re Regulations 106 and 107 and some of the Q&A have been circled in blue. This copy was imaged. The May 1974 instructions of "Tram car Braking on Greasy Rails", has adhesive tape remnants. Copy 2 - 1/5/1975 instructions loose inside the book. Copy 3 - added 29/5/2014 from the collection of R. Wearne. Copy 4 - added 15-6-2015 - from Ron Scholten donation of 11-4-2015. Copy 5 - added 14-12-2015 from donation of Norm Cross 11-10-2009. Had the instructions for Tram car braking on Greasy Rails appended inside front cover - loose, with adhesive tape remnants.
