Black and white photo going to sepia toned, of about 11 W2's and many motor vehicles on Princes Bridge Melbourne, taken from the tower on Flinders Street station building, during the late 1930's. Many people on bridge, traffic jam of motor vehicles on the bridge itself. Note buildings at the Batman avenue terminus. Can see a tram trolley pole of a tram in Batman Avenue. No curve from Batman Ave. into Swanston St. At least two of the trams do not have route number boxes. Copy of an article by Neville Gower, published in "Somersault", the magazine of the Signalling Record Society of Victoria, May 1988. Describes location of loops in horse drawn era compared to those of the ESCo area 1905 to 1934, with reference to changes made to ESCo Loops by SECV upon rehabilitation of the system, based upon changes on BTM's collection of staffs. Published in p54, 55, 56 and 60 of Somersault, May 1988. Copy supplied by Graeme Reynolds, printed with a dot matrix printer. Page 56 and cover page supplied by Warren Doubleday (2/1999). 1037 - Newspaper clipping from The Sun (Melbourne), April 15, 1972 in the Magazine section of the newspaper, called 'Then and Now' about the closure the following day of the Bendigo tramways. Gives an outline history of the tramway system, and two stories about the tramways, one about a driver named "Hellfire Jack" and an accident between a tram he was driving and a horse pulled dray loaded with tomatoes.
