Document - Document - Correspondence, Ballarat School of Mines: Letter to Editor of Bendigo "Advertiser" from H E Arblaster, 14th November 1960
The School of Mines Ballarat began in 1870. It's location was the south end of Lydiard Street. Ballarat Junior Technical School began in 1913 and was boys only until 1951 when girls were included. They were under the control of the School of Mines Council. In 1967 the were three divisions. Each was internally distinguished. Ballarat School of Industries, Ballarat Technical School and Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education. In 1976 B.I.A.E. merged with State College of Victoria Ballarat - formerly Ballarat Teachers' College to become Ballarat College of Advanced Education, later to become Federation University. Letter written by H E Arblaster, Principal of Ballarat School of Mines, to The Editor, The Bendigo Advertiser. Letter refers to a letter written by Alec Craig's proposal for the development of a Bendigo School of Mines. This is a view Arblaster has held for some time.Single page, typed.HEA/BMH top right. August 1962, Elizabeth Penny elected as first woman Councillor of Ringwood Open Day of Ringwood Technical School as part of the Commonwealth Technical Training Week by Mayor RC Horman 80,000 pound to build Aged-Care home in Kirk St, Ringwood. Work expected to start in February 1962. Land donated by Ringwood Council. The Richmond Lions Club has donated a sizable amount. Pam Deuter awarded American Field scholarship Ringwood CWA 12 birthday. -

Catherine Maggs was married to James Maggs who belonged to a large pioneer family in the Ringwood area. They had nine children. James died in July 1940. A wonderful mother at rest. MAGGS.—On October 14, at her home, Kalinda Road, Ringwood, Catherine, dearly loved mother of Beulah and mother-in-law of Bert. Peacefully sleeping.
