This map indicates portions of land in the Parish of Gorrockburkchap near Rowsley which was required for construction of a road. The land required was leased to a Michael Laffan. Other blocks of land nearby owned or leased by D. McPhail and J. Mahoney are also indicated on the map. The date of the map is not known. However newspaper reports in the Bacchus Marsh Express on the 18 March 1882, page 3, column 3 mention land occupied by McPhail and Laffan near Rowsley in connection to the construction of a public road.Single page map showing land occupied by farmers D. These Lithographs were made for the printing and Publishing of the Book entitled "The History of Winchelsea Shire" by Cr. W.L Koenig who was commissioned by the Shire of Winchelsea to collate, Document and present the Pre-Colonial and Colonial History of the Barwon District and in particular the Winchelsea Shire for posterity and public education. The Book was published including the photographs represented by these lithographs as illustrations, and remains the foundation of the historical narrative of the area, and the context of this collection. This Lithograph is one of four depicting indigenous artefacts collected and displayed by Cr. Koenig.Koenigs collection of indigenous artefacts remain as unique in the Surf Coast Shire as a relic of material culture from the district in Pre-Colonial times. These lithographs remain as significant in themselves being the master copy remaining from the publication of Koenig's work. The district of Strathfieldsaye was proclaimed in 1861 and named a Shire on the 17th September in 1866. It remained a shire until amalgamation in 1994 when it became part of the City of Greater Bendigo. The shire was located 8 km to the south- east of Bendigo and covered an area of 601 square kilometres and extended from the Calder Highway to the Coliban and Campaspe Rivers. The shire's administration centre was in Strathfieldsaye until 1972 when new offices were opened in Kennington. This coat of arms was commissioned for the front of the shire hall building.Brass painted coat of arms or emblem within a circle of the Shire of Strathfieldsaye. Outer rim contains text: SHIRE OF STRATHFIELDSAYE VICTORIA 1866 with the shield of the monarch of the United Kingdom centre top. The shield is divided into four parts with images reflecting the leading industries of the time; wine growing, mining, farming and tanning. The motto PROGRESS is depicted lower centre of shield.
