Associated with medal bar for dress uniform WW1. 1914-1918. Associated with dress uniform WW1. The ribbon bar is worn on the left hand side above the breast and the colours of the ribbons affixed determine the campaigns served and or other military awards with approval to wear. Circa WW1 1914-1918. Gold coloured metal and brass ribbon plate for military uniform (no ribbons affixed). The back of the plate has two round lugs and an attachment slide through pin. The front top of the metal bar has a feather leaf type pattern affixed on top of where the ribbon mount would sit. Letter - Message in a Bottle
In 1915 Arthur Swanwick from Bendigo enlisted in the AIF. He left for overseas service in March 1916. He wrote a message to his sweetheart Jessie Campbell, placed it in a bottle and threw it overboard from HMAT A18 "Wiltshire". The bottle was found on a beach near Robe SA and the message was sent to Jessie. Arthur returned home and he and Jessie married in 1918. Arthur died on 11 April 1968. Arthur's niece sent the updated information after the story was shared with the family who knew nothing about it. A hand written letter on lined green paper sent to BHS providing an update on the story of a "Message in a Bottle" written by Arthur Swanwick to Jessie Campbell. Letter - LETTER, WW1
"Pte James W. FRAKEL"23020 was a member of the 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment during WW1. His brother John requested that he give some details of the time since his enlistment. The letter is quite a detailed account from his enlistment to his injury and demob. Moved to Australia 19201, Tattered original letter from Pte James Farrel, from Feb 4th 1916, describing his history in the Army. Written on brown paper in small neat hand writing. Some pages torn in half. In total 20 pages. 2. Photocopy of the original letter on letter size paper over 10 pages. Copy in black and white with extra copy of 1st page in colour. 3. Souvenir - BANNER, SILK WW1, c.WW1
Banner was souvenired by Trooper Frank J. Fry, 3rd ALH Regiment No 2315. Trooper Fry also served in the Imperial Camel Corps in Palestine from 1916 to mid 1918 when he rejoined the 3rd ALH Regiment White silk banner featuring the flags of eight WW1 allied nations (Great Britian, France, Belgium, Japan, Serbia, Italy, Russia, Egypt.) The flags surround a raised life buoy over an embroidered anchor. Inside the life buoy is space for a photograph. At the bottom of the banner is a gold coloured rectangular frame housing a coloured print of a naval battle. The banner is topped with "Victory for the Allies."Over an embroidered King's Crown Banner is mounted on cardboard and covered with a clear cellophane Embroidered on top of banner.
