Journal or ticket record wallet, consisting of two very heavy and hard pieces of brown coloured leather joined by a sewn (brown cotton) lighter piece of leather to form foldable wallet. The outside covers have been polished. Used to hold the ticket records or trip journals of a conductor. Document comprising two large manila sheets, 15 full size foolscap paper (432mm x 343mm) stapled into the manila covers and the left hand edge covered with a black adhesive tape. Carbon copy of document. Document titled - "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board - By-Law 28, Tolls, Fares and Charges", dated 1st July 1980, rescinding By-Law 27 of 4/9/1979, providing details of all tickets, tolls, fares and charges of the Board to apply from that date. Gives details of all the sections. Notes concession fares, pensioners, special trams, substituted services and passengers over-riding. On the last page has the formal seal of the Board signed by D. Coin - Fare Token/s, 1920's
Set of two fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 22mm diameter - dark brown celluloid - with words "Melbourne & Metropolitan" on circumference and "Tramways Board" in centre of token. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at to the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. Both sides have a edge lining border about 1mm from the outer edge. Record updated following a query and being advised of an article in The Argus 1-4-1924 - see Reg Item 3359 for a copy. Item probably dates from c1920, phased out 1924.
