Sepia portrait of Horatio St Vincent Busst, born Bendigo 1866, died Kew 8/6/1940, educated at St Killians and Bendigo High School, in 1883 was appointed Mining Warden of Sandhurst and in 1889 was appointed Mining Registrar for the district of Sandhurst. Father Thomas Walter Busst native of Staffordshire England arrived in Bendigo 1856. Brother T.W.Busst Junior was an Australian Amateur Cycling Champion. Cotton off white men's waistcoat with six 1.6cm white plastic buttons. High collarless V neckline. Cotton fabric has checked pattern with small red crosses on corners of checks. Fully lined with cream coloured cotton fabric. Three flat pockets on front each with 2 cm band across top edge. One breast pocket on LHS. Two pockets above waist fob watch button hole at front, 12 cm above hem. Pockets lined with cream coloured cotton fabric. Back of vest made of plain cream coloured cotton fabric. Half belt at back (tapering from 4.5cm at back to 2.5cm at centre) fastened with gold coloured metal buckle with two prongs. Clothing - GOLD SILK VICTORIAN BODICE ( PART OF SET WITH 11400.76 AND 11400.976), Late 1800's
High round neckline finished with a 2 cm fine striped silk stand-up collar-(this is now severely damaged). One metal hook fastener at the neckline, but no loop remains, although thwere is some evidence of a hand stitched remnant of a loop. Eight rounded buttons (one missing) are bound with silk thread. Sleeves have a fine rouleau piping at shoulder. They are round in shape at the elbow, and finished with a flounce, which is trimmed with 2.5 cm band of contrasting, finely striped silk and a 5 cm wide silver silk braid, as in 11400.975 and 11400.976. A gathered frill and a band of striped ribbon trim the upper edge of the flounce. The striped ribbon, and silver braid trim the front panels, either side of the button opening, and a band of the striped ribbon and silver braid trim the lower edge of bodice.Bodice and sleeves are lined with cream polished cotton, while the lower front panels, which give a peplum type of effect, are lined with cream silk. Centre back panel has a fabric bow, trimmed with the darker striped fabric, and the silver braid bow is 13 cm wide, plus the 5 cm silver braid. Pleated tails of the bow are part of back bodice. An inside 2cm wide cotton tape, with metal hook, and hand stitched loop, fastens around the waistline. Garment is machine and hand stitched. Clothing. Child's ivory coloured sleeveless yoked linen dress. High round neckline with wide fold down lace edged collar (12 cm) dipping to a V shape at centre front and on either side of the back opening. Skirt is gathered into the yoke back and front. Clothing. Infant's white spotted muslin waisted dress. High round neck with lace trim. Front of dress has alternating vertical stripes of pin tucks and lace. Skirt tightly gathered into casing at waist. Lower section of skirt has alternating horizontal stripes of pin tucks and lace. Long shaped sleeves with fabric cap around arm hole. Sleeve gathered into casing at wrist. Item edged with lace, forming a frill. Clothing - WOMAN'S BLACK SILK BROCADE BODICE, 1880-1900
Clothing. Woman's black silk brocade bodice. High round neckline with full length front opening fastened with 13 metal hooks and eyes. Bodice fully lined with black cotton fabric and shaped in at waistline. Seven casings for boning - two on each side of front, one on each side seam and one at centre back (18cm X 1.3 cm). Casings reinforced with bright yellow cotton stitching. Cotton tape casing at hemline at waist. Long straight set in sleeves extending to a rounded shape over the back of the hand.Cross over front outer layer fastened with three hooks and eyes at the top and one at the waist. Panels of black lace run from shoulders to waist on either side of a centre insert panel (12 cm X 15cm) with five horizontal strips of velvet ribbon. Below the insert are three 7-9cm wide black lace ruffles with khaki green embroidery (Jabot effect). The back has a deep V shaped insert of vertical pin tucks and black lace, from across the shoulders to centre back. Clothing - WOMAN'S BLACK RIBBED SILK BODICE, 1880-1900
Clothing. Woman's black ribbed silk bodice, fully ;lined with black cotton fabric. High round neckline with stand up lined lace collar (4cm), fastened left of centre at front with two metal hooks and eyes. Front lining fastened with twelve metal hooks and eyes from throat to waistband. Waistband (5.5cm) of horizontal pleated fabric. Small pocket (8cm X 6cm) attached to inside lining on LHS. Waistband has 7 cm cross over tab section at centre front fastened with three metal hooks and eyes. Centre front opening is edged with black lace and tucked spotted voile, fastened with three metal hooks and eyes.A wide shawl collar across the shoulders extends and gathers into the waistband at front and back. This forms a V shaped opening at the front exposing the lace and voile beneath.The inner and outer edges of the collars have decorative knots. The centre of the collars have 18cm pin tucks from the shoulder seam at the front and 11 cm pin tucks at the back.At centre back. a panel of black lace runs from the collar to the hem of the waistband. Two gathered fabric tails are attached at centre back to hang below the hem of the waistband. Decorative lace as stitched across the shawl collar at the shoulders seams, ending with a decorative knot and cotton tassell (7cm). Set in Leg 'o'Mutton sleeves are gathered around the arm holes and gathered into a band of fabric with decorative lace and knots. The narrow lower section has a turned over hem edged with decorative knots and black lace. Each sleeve has a 5cm slit at the wrist. The bodice has fifteen bone casings spaced across the garment, from the waistband. These are stitched in place with yellow cotton. Some internal seams finished with yellow cotton. Hand stitched. Word ''GLEN" is written on one bone casing. Temporary darts have been stitched on both side seams with red cotton to reduce the size.costume, female, woman's black ribbed silk bodice. -

Textile - FAVALORO COLLECTION: PIECE OF SILK FABRIC WITH LACE AND EMBROIDERED INSERT, 1920-30's
Textiles. This is a beautiful remnant of fine cream silk fabric, with a 3.5 cm deep band of cotton lace, woven with a floral design, stitched around the lower edge. A triangular shape above the lower edge, is formed by the insertion of a piece of 2 cm wide cotton lace, also with a floral design, folded and machine stitched as an insertion. The same lace is also inserted in a 9.5 cm high "frame" over an embroidered panel 7.5 cms x 6 cms wide, and featuring a delicate circular embroidered and cut-work floral design. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: BABY SHOES, Late 1800's
Clothing. Tiny kid(?) leather soles - just 11 cms long, with burgandy silk fabric uppers- having a centre front seam, and a centre back seam. These seams are machine stitched and then top stitched on both sides of the seam, with tiny machine stitches. A 'turn-back' of burgandy, fake-fur trims around the ankle high boots and two burgandy silk ribbon bows, fasten the boot at the outer ankle. Inners of the boots are lined with a canvas-like fabric. Soles appear to be a soft chamois type leather.costume, children's, baby shoes. -

Domestic Object - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: PALM-FROND DIAMOND SHAPED FAN, 1920's
Object. Woven palm - frond handle and 'spine'. Strips of palm-frond have then been split from the fronds, and woven in a 'basket' effect, with slightly wider - 1 cm, at the base of the fan shape, tapering to .5 cm at the top. Lower section at the centre. A second 5 cm straight shape section steps up to a top peak, 4 cm high. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: PAIR OF SATIN BUTTON - UP BOOTS, Mid to late 1800's
Clothing. Deep cream silk (?) satin button-up boots/shoes. Immaculate, tiny stitching. Low, Louie shaped heel. Ankle high boots. Buttoning opening on the outside edge-eight scallops each finely bound and stitched. Each fastened by a tiny 8mm domed painted button, and an immaculate, stitched buttonhole. Sadly, the satin has split, on each opening panel. Some colouring has been chipped from the buttons. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: FULL LENGTH LONG SLEEVED, BLACK BEADED DRESS, Late 1800's
Clothing. High stand-up embroidered net collar-close fitting to the neck, and fastening at the back with now 4 metal hooks and loops (one hook missing) and edged at top and bottom with tiny black beads. Five metal ''curved wires'' 7 cm long, are spaced around the up right ''collar'' (to hold in place). The embroidered net forms a V shaped panel at the centre front, and has 15 silk covered oval buttons .8 cm long, from throat to lower bodice. This panel is bordered by embroidered and beaded braid, 7 cm wide and giving a cross-over effect. Cotton tape inside waist 66 cm long fastens with two metal hooks and eyes.Under this lace cross-over, the bodice is shirred and pleated, to give fullness for movement. Pleats are ''caught-in'' at the waistline. An elbow length over-lay of sheer silk fabric, edged with the beaded braid. The sleeves are silk fabric to the elbow, and then narrow in to a three hook plackett at the wrist. This lower sleeve with a 2.5 cm lace frill, and a spotted tulle fabric, and ''dotted'' at the upper side with a double row of tiny black beads. A false tucked effect at opprox knee level at back of skirt. Back hemline extends to a small ''train''. Hemline is heavily weighted.costume, female, full length long sleeved black dress
