A program of an Annual Demonstration by Junior Legatees at the Melbourne Town Hall on Tuesday 25th October 1938. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the 1980s, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. The Kew Philharmonic Society was founded by Dr. Ehrenfeld, c.1946, who was also the Orchestra's first conductor. He was succeeded by Harold Badger in 1954 following the death of the former. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Orchestra played its concerts in the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street. In 1960, the Orchestra relocated to the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road (the site of the current Kew Library).Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1960s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The collection includes valuable data about performances, performers, directors etc., during this period. The Eureka Stockade centre was designed by Cox Sanderson Ness, with the exhibition designed by Mother's art and BCM. The builder was Hooker Cockram Pty Ltd. it is located on the corner of Eureka Street and Rodier Street, within the Eureka Reserve, The Eureka Stockade Centre was designed to the importance of the events leading up to the Rebellion at Eureka on 03 December 1854 in Ballarat, and its aftermath. The centre aimed to be a focus for continuing debate and interpretation of the Eureka Story in what it means to contemporary Australia culture. It was officially opened on Friday 27 March 1998 by the Premier of Victoria, The Hon. Jeff Kennett, M.L.A. The message from the Premier, as printed on the programme states: 'It is indeed a pleasure to be in Ballarat today to officially open the Eureka Stockade centre. The centre has been designed to show the importance of the events leading up to the Rebellion at Eureka on 3 December 1854 in Ballarat and its aftermath. This centre will remain a focus for continuing debated and interpretation of the Eureka Story in what it means to contemporary Australian culture. The Royal Princess Theatre, 73 View St., Bendigo, was designed by William Charles Vahland and opened on 31/8/1874. It had a capacity of 2000 and was lit by gas until 1898 when electricity became available. The original proprietors were John Croley (1827-1899) and William (Billy) Heffernan (1840-1899). It was Bendigo's first permanent picture house in 1910, with it's first showing being the silent film "The Desert Song". It closed in 1930 before reopening in 1936 after being rebuilt in the Art Deco style.
