Photograph, Steam locomotive J-500 at the coal hopper, Echuca Railway Station, November 1963, 1963
THE ECHUCA COALING STAGE. Locomotives would stop alongside to receive coal dropped into their tenders from small overhead rail mounted tipping trays. Water could be obtained from either the elevated tank at one end or the connected standpipe at the opposite end. Locomotive firebox contents could be dumped into pits between the rails from locomotives once they were carefully positioned above them. Such locomotives then could move onto the Engine Shed area for overnight parking. Firebox fires would be re-lit when the locomotive was next needed in a day or so.Digital TIFF file Scan of 35mm Ilford FP3 black and white negative transparencyechuca railway station, george coop collection, j-500, j-class steam locomotive (vulcan foundry) -

Accompanying letter from Florence Chrichton 2013 : "Originally sent to Shire of Eltham Engineer, Mr. McDonald. [These photographs were part of their campaign to the Shire of Eltham in 1975] claiming that the zoning regulations were being breached by the occupants of various factories in the nearby light industrial zone [Brougham Street, Eltham] - to the detriment of those living in adjoining residential zones, and that, despite .. earlier objections and complaints, nothing was done about it." 1 black and white photograph printed with white borderInscribed on back: "Ryans Yard, Susan Street, (part owned by Tillings) showing Tillings surplus baulk timber (at extreme right and left) before milling. This timber is often also stored in Peel Street. Majority of baulks are stored at rear or side of Tillings main premises. Eltham High School object to transportation of this timber along Bell and Susan Streets in large semi-trailers. Trucks backing in and out of Tillings cause frequent traffic jams in Bridge Street (often around 8am)." industrial estate, brougham street, eltham, 1975, bolton street, dick crichton, n.j. tillings, timber factory, shire of eltham, susan street, bell street, eltham high school -

Book, Mike Colman, Crew : the story of the men who flew RAAF Lancaster J for Jig, 2018
The story of an RAAF Lancaster bomber crew shot down over France in 1944. On the evening of 24 February 1944, RAAF Lancaster bomber J for Jig took off from an airfield in Lincolnshire. On board was a crew of seven young men - five Australians, two Scots - whose mission was to bomb factories in Schweinfurt, Germany. But J for Jig never reached its target. It was shot down in the night skies over France. This book is about the seven lives on that aircraft - who they were, what they did, whom they loved, and whom they left behind. Some were to die that night, and others were to survive, withstanding incredible hardships and adventures as prisoners and evaders in a war that was far from over. Crew brilliantly recreates J for Jig's final mission but, more than that, in telling seven individuals' stories Mike Colman has captured the achievements, loss and the enduring legacy of the generation that fought in the Second World War.Ill, p.326.non-fictionThe story of an RAAF Lancaster bomber crew shot down over France in 1944.
